Thank Yous: A big big one for the art that
chibifukurou did as I would not have written this otherwise.
Nate was happy that the time with the kids as kitten was nearing its end. He looked at the three in the cat carrier and chuckled. It earned him a glare, but he didn't care. He did wish he had a camera in order to use it against the three later, even though it wouldn't do any good. Hardison would be able to erase any sort of file on it if Eliot didn't destroy the camera. And, if both of them failed, Parker would just steal whatever she needed to - the camera, the memory stick, and any laptop that contained it. "Are the three of you alright in there?" He managed to get out.
"Only if Sophie doesn't kill us with her driving," Hardison replied. "Though she's got some skills and I would admit that she's better than some, but I'd like to keep my fur."
"Ha ha," Parker said from behind Hardison. She was able to move and pounce on his tail, which made him yelp. "See if I ever let you have any car keys ever again."
"Eliot! Eliot, halp!" Hardison said as Parker decided to tackle him.
Eliot moved in and separated them. "Parker, you are not driving unless there is a big emergency."
"Neither of you are any fun," Parker said as she moved away from them. She turned up her nose and just stared out the meshing to what was happening in the car.
"This is your fault," Eliot hissed to Hardison.
"She pounced me and just - we can't let her drive," Hardison hissed back.
"Will the two of you stop it?" Nate asked. "It might be best to just be quiet for a while."
"...You only had one drink," Hardison said.
"Hardison," Sophie said, a bit of an edge to her voice.
"Sorry," Hardison said as he laid down. He was going to try to become quiet. The only thing is that it was hard to do because he wanted to say one last thing. He bit his tongue as he saw that Eliot was watching him. He just sighed and curled up into a ball. He was rewarded to Parker nudging him before curling up on top of him. He let out a little meow that made Parker shift wait a bit so that it wasn't hurting anything. He was very happy when Eliot came and laid down next to him as well.
"Thank you," Nate said quietly to Sophie.
"You're welcome," Sophie said before leaning over and kissing Nate's cheek as they were stopped at a stop light. "Besides, I was getting tired of their bickering as well."
"They're cuter when they're quiet," Nate remarked as he looked at the trio.
"They are," Sophie said. She went through the light when it turned green before pulling into the parking lot closest to the lab. "And we have their word that we're not going to get arrested?"
"We're protected," Nate said. "Which surprises me more than anything. I didn't think that he cared that much."
"Hrm," Sophie said as she thought about it. "It just leaves us open for anything he asks as a favor."
"We can always not agree and take our chances," Nate said. "We've weathered him before. We'll do it again."
"The fact that you're so calm about it makes me worry," Sophie said.
"Soph - Peter wouldn't lie," Eliot said as he lifted his head. "Or go back on a promise."
"The entire word is our bond thing," Hardison said. "Ow!" He said as Parker whapped his ear.
"Be nice," Parker said.
"I am!" Hardison said.
"Kittens," Sophie said.
"Sorry," Hardison and Parker said together before settling down.
"I'm still surprised that works half the time," Nate said.
"I've got to remember to use the mother voice instead of the Sophie voice," Sophie replied as she turned off the car. "Are we all ready or does anybody have any last words?"
"...You said that Plan M was retired!" Hardison protested and tried to get out from under Parker. It was clear now that the laying on Hardison was actually a pin that Eliot taught her.
"You are a sadist sometimes," Eliot said to Sophie.
"Depends on the situation," Nate said as he got out of the car. He grabbed the file as he went, leaving her to deal with the kitten carrier. He smiled as Sophie came around the car with a cat carrier that only had the sound of a small bell inside. "They really are children."
"No," Sophie said. "Catnip."
"I'm starting to think that it doesn't depend on the situation," Nate said as he got a light hit on the shoulder for that.
"Parker is the only one that is going to be more charged up when she gets back into human form," Sophie pointed out. "Now, where are we going?"
Nate was about to say something when he saw Peter walk out of a building. He nodded and walked over to Peter with Sophie following him. "Peter Bishop, Sophie Devereaux."
"A pleasure to meet you," Sophie said with a smile.
Peter raised an eyebrow. "I've met you before. But it was Robin ...something. And there was a Boston accent."
"She's lived many lives in one," Nate said.
Peter nodded a yes. "I don't like cons," he said.
"Lucky that we're not using one tonight," Sophie said before holding up the cat carrier. "Shall we go on then?"
"Fine," Peter said as he turned around and led them towards the lab.
"I just think he doesn't like the fact that you don't remember him," Nate said quietly to Sophie.
"No, I remember him," Sophie said quietly. "As a scared boy who didn't remember anything. It was for a friend of his mother's who just wanted the boy to come home. I overplayed the accent and spooked him. The partner I was with was killed by a stray bullet from a freedom fighter."
"Oh," Nate said.
"Glad you spooked him," Eliot said. "He's a good friend."
"Good friends are good to have," Sophie said as they got into the lab.
"Walter!" Peter called and went deeper into the lab.
Sophie was about to say something when there was a loud moo heard. "You said nothing about a cow."
"Cow wasn't on the original specs either," Hardison said. "She was added in. She was also asleep when we came here last."
"Oh," Sophie said as Walter came around the corner.
"Oh - hello," Walter said. "So, it worked?"
"Yes," Nate said. "Sophie."
Sophie put the cat carrier on a table and opened it. "They are Eliot, Alec Hardison, and Parker."
"Hello!" Parker said happily as she jumped out of the cat carrier and pounced upon a tea cozy.
"They've had a bit of catnip," Nate said.
"Oh dear," Walter said as the other two kittens came out. "Well - this is extraordinary. I believe the ray will be able to reverse the molecules to turn them back into their human forms. If not, then it will just be about a week for them to change back."
"A week?!" Hardison said. "This better work. I don't want to be spending a week as a cat."
"I thought cat nip was to calm kittens," Peter said.
"For some, yes," Eliot said in a sleep tone from inside the cat carrier.
Nate reached inside and gently brought Eliot out. "No more for you."
"Not fair," Eliot said as he yawned.
"Well - let's put them on the table and see if it works," Walter said.
"This isn't going to hurt, is it?" Hardison asked.
"Did it hurt the first time?" Walter asked.
"No," Hardison said.
"Then you'll be fine!" Walter said happily as he did some modifications. "Alright, we're all ready."
"Onto the table," Nate said as he put Eliot there. He smiled as Parker and Hardison jumped up to where Eliot was. He gave them a parting scratch before joining Walter, Peter, and Sophie behind the machine. He put on the goggles that were offered and waited.
"In three, two, one.." Walter said and powered the ray on. It took a few moments for the kittens to become the people they were before.
"YAY!" Parker said and glomped Nate. She then moved and hugged Walter. "Thank you."
"Oh - you're quite welcome," Walter said.
"And sorry for taking your thing, man," Hardison said, looking a bit shaky.
Eliot shook his head but still looked a bit out of it. "Thanks," he mumbled as Hardison moved to steady him.
"The file," Nate said as he handed it to Walter. "As promised."
"Oh, thank you," Walter said. "Yes, this will be good," he said. "Would you like to see what is in it?"
"Yes," Parker said with a smile and went off with Walter to see what was in the file.
"She's...odd," Peter said.
"We like to use the term different," Sophie said as Nate moved to look over with them. "I am glad that it worked."
"Robin - or Sophie or whatever you're called," Peter said. "Did you mean it back then? That you were there to take me home if I agreed with it?"
"Yes," Sophie said. "The only people I lied to were the ones that I needed to. You were not one of them."
"Did I meet Eliot on accident or on purpose?" Peter asked.
"That I cannot answer for you," Sophie said. "All I said, to the person that I was employed to, is that I could not persuade you to come with. The person said that there was a Plan B. So, it is that person that you might need to talk to."
"Alright," Peter said and nodded a yes. "Thank you."
Sophie handed Peter a card. "In case you ever want to call and talk."
Peter took the card. "Thank you."
"And tell Walter that Parker can come over if we're not working. Use the same number. Nate," Sophie called. "We need to go."
"Alright," Nate said as he and Parker came over. "Thank you Peter."
"You're welcome," Peter said with a smile.
And with that, the group left and went back to the bar. They decided that it was best to get rest for the night and regroup the next morning to debrief and realize they had just made two new allies in one night.
