No doubt, things have to change, and not only in the States. Do you watch The Daily Show with Jon Stewart? He had the editor of The Republican on as a guest on Monday and the dude actually said on air that Americans shouldn't get the same health care as, say, the armed forces because their contributions to society weren't the same.
He also said that a gov't-controlled health care plan was untenable, and then 2 minutes later said that the armed services get the BEST health care in the world (which is administered by the Federal Gov't)! I'm starting to wonder if any far right pundit graduated high school... *facepalm*

Yes, I did see that episode! Jon Stewart is great. I dunno. Did you see last night's episode? They had a collage of clips and one of them was some guy saying: the Obama administration is a trojan horse, and inside the trojan horse, there are socialists. Who has fried tomatoes in the thinky part of the brain?

I did see that one - MB and I usually watch it every night. To the far right's credit, I don't think that liberals watch Hannity, Beck or the Fox Network, so they are preaching to the choir - as is Stewart. But it still makes me wonder why extremists (political or otherwise) can't form cogent arguments. Why do they always fall back on rhetoric and inflamatory statements instead of trying to convert through rational debate?
Whenever the far right throws down the "communist" or "socialist" insult, I switch off. They are just playing on the generational fear left over from the Cold War and its just sad. I wonder if ANY of these people have ever read Marx or studied the political policies of Lenin...

Yes, totally. What constantly amazes me is the conflation of communism and socialism... I mean few, if any, people in socialist countries want communism or think of themselves as 'sort of' communists. Have these mushroom-heads never gone to Canada? Or heard of Europe? I mean, it's like conflating Mother Theresa with the British Empire. Or vaccination with the plague.
