When I was growing up my mother and father were both very involved in the National Federation of the Blind (NFB). This is one of the advocacy organizations here in the US. I went with them to meetings, fund raisers, and I even participated in selling things for the local chapter that they were in such as candy and cook books. It was something I ( Read more... )

Great take on the topic. I'm still a little stuck with it and wouldn't have thought of this.

When something like this topic jumps out at me I have to go with the first or second thing that comes to mind.

I know you will find something good to write.

Going with the first or second thing that comes to mind is usually the best idea.

Thanks, I don't really have experience writing about war so this seemed to work good for what I do know about the idea.

I know the idea of marching orders like what would be related to war but wanted to go away from that idea since I imagine a number of entries are going to be war lelated entries.

this is wodnerful to read! We don't get anywhere if there aren't people willing to speak out against discrimination of any sort. *applause*

Very well written.

I've seen shop people refuse to allow guide dogs inside their shop and sometimes they relent when the person stands up to them and sometimes they don't. I myself got in the face of a red-faced screaming man to tell him the Tennessee Law and when he continued called my husband who is a cop to intervene. But I mean really, every guide dog I've seen it was obvious their job. Its not like they are running at your side unleashed. They are working
Idiots.
This ignorant behavior in this day and time is outrageous.

Good for you for being one of those who stands for he=your own and others rights.

Oh the idiots I have seen over the years. For the most part our area is not too bad but it is awful in so many places.

We get no where if people will not step up and be apart of fighting for others rights.

Wow, this was just wonderful! I feel like I learned so much about civil rights laws as they pertain to disabilities and about guide dogs and things that I just don't know very much about. I also like that you wrote a lot of helpful information through stories about your life.

I think this is my favorite piece by you so far this season!

Thanks, teaching people about the rights I have as a guide dog handler is one of my non paying jobs. It is amazing that so much education still needs to happen even after all these years of using a guide dog.

Appreciate your reading.

BTW, wanted to leave a comment on your entry but am having a devil of a time figuring out what is the leave a comment link. I don't find anything that says just that. Unless I am missing it somehow.
