Hugely anxious about going to this event. It's the students exhibition that they've been working towards tonight and I have to go but I am panicking like woah. I don't want to see people, I'm having a bad mental health day and I've tried everything I can think of to get out of it before I have to leave but no use ( Read more... )

Don't put pressure on yourself, honey. Just feeling like you 'have to' can be panic inducing. Step back, take a breath, and realise you don't 'have to'. You can not go. You have that choice, and if it's in yourbest interests, don't go.

Now, have a cuppa or a cold drink or whatever will help you feel more relaxed. The world won't end. You don't have to be or do anything you don't want to.

Give yourself an hour. Quiet, but with enough non stressy distraction that your brain isn't churning over it again.

Find your calm place. You don't HAVE to go.

If you can believe this, and it helps you find some calm again, then great. Then you can ask yourself 'now, do I want to go?' Your choice, honey.

And if you still can't find your calm, or the answer when you do is 'no'? Don't go. This is just one tiny part of one day. It won't undo all the good you've done. Be kind to yourself.

Thank you so much for this lovely comment, you are as always so wise with your words, cutie. You are right through and through, I didn't have to go and I came to that realization. I felt that I could have stayed home, but wanted to give myself one more push to try and get there.

So in the end I contacted another support worker and asked them if I could go along with them, to give me someone to walk in with and get there with etc. It gave me the strength to go once I had made plans to go with someone else.

Walking in was hard, but one I was there my mood lifted and I'm home now feeling accomplished. <3
