Good god!  What have I done?

**shudders**

I've gone and joined up to participate in NaNoWrimo 2008.  What is that you ask?  Well if you're at this journal I suspect you already know since this particular slice of the Internet is dedicated to my involvement there.  But just in case you aren't sure or if you've stumbled upon this journal inadvertently ( Read more... )

It is my first year. I'm excited but also slightly nervous. I'm the type of writer that takes loads of time on a chapter so the thought of 1600 words a day is a bit daunting. But I'm looking at it as a challenge to teach me that it's not about quality initially but quantity. Then I can go back for quality later.

How many years have you been participating?

This will be my third year. In my experience, the trick is to be really excited about what you're writing, because the more ideas you have (no matter how silly they are!), the longer you'll write.

I'm really excited for my characters so I hope that once I latch on to a plot I'll be equally excited!

Hey there! I'm new to NaNo too so I know how you feel. I'm so nervous I plot every day. I think I'm going to go insane before November gets here. haha. If you get bored or stuck, feel free to drop me a line :)

Hi there!

We can go slowly mad together, LOL. What genre are you writing?

muhaha I'm glad I have a partner to go mad with now. you're my first newbie friend! Everyone else are the masters of NaNo. My genre is romance, though I haven't decided if it's going to be in the young adult category yet. What about you?

We newbies have to stick together a little bit.

I have my two main characters solidly set (male and female lead) but I'm still poking around with the plot. I've got a couple of ideas but haven't really latched on to either just yet. I suspect my genre will fall under chick-lit or mainstream fiction. It could go romance too when all is said and done.

Feel free to buddy me on NaNo if you like :) My name there is the same.

Thanks kiki :)

I think for me it's the issue of time more than anything. I've got a 9-6 job and other aspects to life (as most do) so squeezing in approximately 1600 words a day seems a bit daunting.

I'm going to go for it and get as close as I can to the win but won't be devestated should I fall short. Really, I just hope to kind of work the perfectionism out of myself a bit.

That will likely be my mantra throughout...."get something written", anything really. I think for me if I get anything done at all it will be an accomplishment....if I win then that's great too. An added bonus!

I hope you're right about stealing time during lunch and the like. As far as speed goes I can really throw out dialogue at a pretty quick clip so I know that I can probably (hopefully) manage getting home in the evening and rattling out some conversation in each chapter. I can then go back on the weekends and fill in the scene that surrounds it. That tends to be where I labor the most anyway.

Perhaps our editors and critics can charter a private jet and head out to the tropics for a little R & R. What do you think?

Hi! This is my first Nano as well, and I happened to find you on the LJ thread. I'm thinking that I'm not going to reach the 50k this year, but I just think it's cool that I'm going to try :)

Anyway, good luck! Oh, and feel free to friend me. I'm trying to create a circle of Nano-ness. XD

It's definitely cool that you're going to try. I don't know that I'm going to reach the 50K either but the benefits of the attempt (for me) are of equal value. I need to break myself of the need to have everything perfect before I move into another chapter. Banging out dialogue and different parts of scenes regardless of quality will be difficult for me but its a lesson worth learning.

Good luck!
