so i am having kind of a pessimistic kind of day. kinda. recently at my work there was a few supervisor in training and a full supervisor positions posted for openings (one of our supervisors needed to step down for personal reasons). anyways... I think I would have been much more suspicious than you the very first time he was promoted. In fact I would have guessed that he brown-nosed his way to his position. The second time would've confirmed it. I'm also idealistic and always hope that people will be honest and do their best. Unfortunately over my many years, I have found that this is untrue. The things people care about are themselves first above all else, and next their families may come next. And most people will do whatever it takes to give themselves an advantage even if it means being dishonest. I want to believe in the general goodness of all mankind, but I don't believe that is true. I believe we are as primitive as ever in our desire to be the top dog only we hide it behind rules and masks. We really haven't evolved all that much. I think there is probably a 2% population that really have some inkling of something beyond themselves. I also don't have respect for anyone that brown-noses their way to a position. Let alone the person who bought into the brown-noser's ( ... )

even though i know that most people don't think much outside themselves, i'd like to think that the percentage that don't is a little more than 2%.
