John Edw. Blankenchip was a fixture at USC School of Theatre for about a million years. He was rude, crude, obnoxious, foul-mouthed, and constantly putting the school in danger of a law suit from a sensitive student over something.

In hindsight, I'm now able to see that it was the duo of BIll White and John Blankenchip who taught me how to be a professional. Bill White led by example. John Blankenchip infuriated me to the point where I sincerely lobbied to have him forcibly retired. But that taught me the vital importance of being professional in the face of adversity. With both of them now gone, the world is definitely less complete. Both men truly loved their students, and that is the rarest gift any professor can give.
