"Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy. The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent vice of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries. Some regard private enterprise as if it were a predatory tiger to be shot. Others look upon it as a cow that they can milk. Let's see how far we can take a metaphor... ;) jperegrine January 30 2009, 19:11:23 UTC
You don't, however, just attach it to the cart with a flimsy rope and hope that it all works out.

Bridles, traces, a good yoke. You have to actually be able to direct it so that you get where you're going instead of having the rope snapped, the cart overturned and/or smashed, and a runaway horse.

When that happens, then you need everyone's shared miseries to get the cart righted and put back together so it CAN go again. Not to mention rounding up the horse and actually getting it into the proper harnesses.

Ah but who forges those? And where do you get the material? And into which direction does the horse pull? And as for getting it to go again...how do you define that? Do you mean only rolling? Or carrying something? How much was it carrying before the breakdown? Does it carry the same now that it is repaired? More? Less ( ... )

Wish I had known you were going to Texarkana. That's my old stomping ground. I do hope you discovered the wonder that is Bryce's cafeteria and had piece of Chocolate Ice Box pie for me. :) If not, then next time!

"Democracy is the worst form of government... except for all the others out there."

--Churchill

No philosophy, economic system, or form of government is viable in its 100% undiluted form. In a perfect world, yes. In our world?..

The trick is knowing when and where to comprimise, buttress, bolster, and modify your system of choice. And when common sense is the silent minority, you can easily fall into less-than-desired outcomes.
