Disclaimer: I do not own Without A Trace, nor do I own any of the characters from Carol O’Connell’s ‘Mallory’ series. However, I definitely recommend her work. It should be available through most major bookstores. This story is for entertainment purposes only.

OMG I so love this series. Where did you get this Idea.. I know it deal with a Mallory book that I haven't read... but what brought this version of Martin... something that is not how most see him? (Although I enjoy your version SO MUCH better!)

Well... after watching 2X07 (A Tree Falls), you get the idea that Martin's wound up pretty tight. And I was reading Dead Famous (where Mallory humiliates the FBI completely), and it just sort of clicked. The way O'Connell describes Mallory is actually very similar to the way Martin appears to be sometimes. He has a dark side, and you really get the idea that he would love the opportunity to play games like this... he's just never run into anybody who deserves it.

Anyway, reading Dead Famous I couldn't help but think of the WAT team.... and really, who would be the best to handle her? Jack and Danny couldn't do it, they're too impatient, too easily angered. Sam would get wound up and try to make it a cat-fight (and Mallory would destroy her) and Viv would just get fed up with it ( ... )

I'm glad you like this... as I mentioned to someone else, I was worried that Mallory fans might be insulted. After all, she's met a match here ( ... )

Getting a kick out of this series. Although...is it possible for you to post something, either under the table or as a link that provides a sort of timeline as to what stories should be read in what order? I figured out Snow and Broken but had more problems with the Martin v. Mallory series.

Wow, just great. I think this is my favourite of the Martin vs. Mallory series so far. I love seeing this different part of Martin, and having someone to compete (or 'spar', as you say) with seems to bring out a strange, subdued sort of glee in him. I'm not sure if that was what you were going for or not, but I like it!

The ideas about the memos and especially the computer were just brilliant, and very realistic. It's obvious Mallory's a very intelligent person, and so having her defeated (in this battle, anyways) had to be handled very carefully, and you did a wonderful job by using a misconception to bring about that defeat. Umm, I don't think I'm articulating this very well, but I'll wrap things up by just saying that this is one of my favourite of your stories.

Subdued glee sounds about right. Martin seems to get that way when he thinks (or is) putting one over on someone. He's one of those people whom you know is guilty of something when he sits there looking innocent.

Mallory is scary-smart, which is why I think Martin would prize her so much as an enemy. It would be a huge challenge to beat her at anything.

I'm glad you like it.
