Interesting. Martin is unflinching in his criticism of himself.

I think Martin is the type of person who is very good at criticising himself and then turning around and saying: 'yeah, so I'm a son-of-a-bitch... deal with it.'

Jack very much played the martyr in those last few episodes, practically demanding he be punished. I think if the roles were reversed, Martin wouldn't deny responsibility, but would more say: 'Yeah, so I did it. And?'

I think the big difference between them is that Jack always thought he was basically a good guy and doing what was right. Martin is more accepting of his moral ambiguity, I think. Jack is very: 'why don't you love me... I'm a good guy?' whereas Martin is 'you thought I was a good guy? How gullible are you... and will you let me find out?'

Thank you for posting another Martin story. I stumbled upon your LJ one day when I was frantically looking for Martin fanfic, and was thrilled to see so many stories archived!

I must admit that I don't view Martin the same way that you view him, but I do enjoy your point of view and have found the stories a delight to read.

Thank you again.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoy them.

Out of curiosity, how do you see Martin?

You would ask a hard question! It's one thing to know that I see him differently and quite another to put it into words! Eeps! This went longer than I thought, so it'll be in more than one part ( ... )

Finally I got around to reading it! And your stories are to me like coffee is to Martin.

I'm curious though, when you write Martin...how many of your views are reflected in him? I just ask because I find myself agreeing with him on many points about life time and again. Actually, that is a feeling I continually have with your stories, maybe it is one of the many reasons I always like them so much.
No need to answer, if you think it's too personal. :)

Every time I see wou've written another fic I get my hopes up for Martin vs Mallory . . . :)

Anyway. Really liked Martin reading to Jack and the way Jack didn't question the story, but I kept thinking that Martin should have been reading one of the books in Robin Hobb's Assassin trilogy, which would certainly have been appropriate (but maybe a little too obvious).

Thank you.

Not having read that series, I doubt I could have pulled that off. :) And Jack's survival instinct might not be huge, but I think even he'd realise that interrupting would lead to more pain, if something slightly short of death.

I'm slowly working on one.

I thought you might have read it given that Robin Hobb is a fairly famous fantasy author. I mentioned it because it has a damaged hero who suffers from a martyr complex, is emotionally damaged due to his father's abandonment, has a disastrous relationship with his own daughter and infuriates the people who care about him with his go-it-alone attitude. I sort of felt your Martin would have found it appropriate to read such a book by Jack's bedside.

Stumbled onto your fics (by googling Martin Fitzgerald Fanfic, oddly enough) and just wanted to say thank you so, so much for writing a decent and real Martin. Most people seem to write him as a rather flat character if he's not pining after Sam or Danny, or as just a shy, sweetly fumbling boy scout. You manage to combine canon and what little hints TPTB throw us with an inner Martin that rings very, very true. I've spent the last two days reading every fic on the list and can't wait for more!

Write More and Post Often :)

Wow. Thank you.

One thing I could never see Martin as is a 'boyscout'. He's far too passive-aggressive for that. Not to mention the temper, which is definitely canon.

I've got a few on the go, so we'll see what happens. :)
