If you are talking about electricity in general, I think that has something to due with protons, neutrons, and electrons. But if you are talking about electrical power, such as what allows you to flip a switch and the lights come on, it's definitely not lightning. That is as long as you don't have a lightning rod. Most of the electricity in the U.S. is produced by burning coal, but sometimes it's natural gas or oil. Simply stated, the subtance is burned, which turns the water into 950 degree steam. The pressure from the steam drives turbines in a circular motion, which sends energy to the generators that convert the mechanical energy into electrical energy. The electric is then sent through wires which eventually reach your outlet, where you plug your tv, or your lightbulb. Nuclear energy uses the same process, but instead of burning fossil fuels, uranium atoms are split which causes heat, and turns the water into steam, etc.
