I remember when I was much younger I had a pretty strong aversion to the concept of transhumanism. My aversion to the concept of transhumanism consists of it seeming like an overhyped name for a non-phenomenon.

So I could be talking out of my ass here, but it's my understanding that a lot of the cases of Hollywood pushing societal values in B movies originates from the effort to get wider distribution: producers could point to their trashy horror or sci-fi as having a redeeming social value and thus perhaps get it shown in more places than it might have been otherwise. Over time, these things become tropes of the genre even if they're no longer necessary to secure distribution.

Of course, it's entirely possible that I'm constructing this story based entirely on 'Ed Wood,' so take this with a grain of salt.
