of cats and kings

Max cat got some serious(ly bad-smelling/messy) stomach issues yesterday and I took her food away this morning to see if that would help (most common recommendation for cats with first-time diarrhea). She's never been ill before so I'm a bit in denial. She's fine, right? Right? Anyone with any experience here ( Read more... )

My kitty, Oskar, had several rude bouts of diarhea. Kittens have really sensitive intestines, and just about anything can set it off. My advice is to keep him on one kind of food, do not supplement it with any soft food until he's older, if at all, and wait it out. Good luck!

Unfortunately she is not a kitten (she's almost 9 years old), and she's been eating the same food for months, and suddenly this! Luckily my partner is VERY helpful with cleaning her (I held, he washed) and she seems to be doing better. I'm trying to feed her white rice boiled in chicken broth but she mainly likes to lick up the broth. Ah. I really hope that she keeps improving. Thank you so much for your advice.

I'm a cat-lover and veterinarian. If your cat is doing OK now, then I wouldn't worry overmuch. She could have gotten into somthing that didn't agree with her. A bland diet might do the trick for the next few days. If it persists, I would take in a fecal sample to be analyzed, particularly if your cat goes outside. If this is negative, and the diarrhea does not go away, I would look for another cause. Diarrhea isn't that uncommon in cats, so a short bout is nothing to worry about unless kitty gets very dehydrated.

Thank you so much for your advice! I have been feeding her very carefully, giving her small amounts of her usual food plus organic rice, chicken broth and (treat of all treats) freshly cooked turkey. She seems to be improving. Last night she was playing again and her fur is looking better, so my partner and I are feeling very relieved and happy about that. She doesn't get to go outside, though she'd love to.

thanks again!
