Why do certain people not understand the concept of public transport

I have to admit that I'm guilty of some of those things, though I use loud headphones so I can avoid talking to the crazies that inevitably try and talk something crazy or worse something dirty. I learned at age 15, while you may meet some nice and interesting people on the bus, some of it is only funny in retrospect.
