Summary: Future!Fic. An attempt at this prompt: I’d really like to see the story of Rachel and Quinn getting together as told from the eyes of the paparazzi and the pages of celebrity magazines. Ideally this would all start after college when Rachel (successful Broadway starlet) accidentally bumps into Quinn on the streets of NYC.
A/N: I'm not sure I'm happy with the way this turned out, but I'm going to post it anyway, since it's basically done...

WHO IS SHE?
Our photographers were fortunate enough to catch up with Broadway’s newest darling Rachel Berry today, as she window-shopped on Fifth Avenue. As she emerged from Tiffany’s, however, we caught sight of something far, far more exciting than the new jewellery she sported! On her way out of the store she bumped into a woman - slight, blonde, and unfortunately only pictured from the back above. Rachel seemed surprised to see this person, whoever she was, and had to tap her on the arm to get her attention. Once their eyes met, however, they stood in the Tiffany’s entrance talking for almost a half hour. When they finished talking, they exchanged what might have been phone numbers on business cards, and went their separate ways. We here at US, on behalf of a curious nation, have to ask - who is this mystery girl? Rachel, always more than little tight-lipped about her past, refused to comment, but rest assured - we are on the case!

PRODUCERS DEFEND NEW WEBBER SHOW, STAR RACHEL BERRY
Producers Stephen Topolsky and Duncan Wregget are speaking out in advance of next week’s opening of Judas, the Webber musical expected to open to sold-out crowds next week. The production has been dogged for weeks by allegations of bribery in exchange for favourable advance reviews, as well as multiple reports that the show’s lead, Rachel Berry, is on the verge of departing to rehab for an unspecified drug problem.
“It’s utter crap,” Topolsky says frankly. “All of it. We have no need to pay for reviews - the show’s going to be a smash all on its own, and we’ve got a month’s worth of sold-out performances that say the audience believes that.”
And the status of their star? Wregget steps in to answer. “I have no idea where all of this has come from. Rachel has been nothing but a consummate professional, and these reports of a drug problem - well, if it was me I’d be suing their (expletive deleted). She’s never taken drugs - if she had, she wouldn’t still be the lead of this show. She’s just happy, and some people who don’t know her seem to think that means she must be on something.” Pressed on the subject of her newfound happiness, Wregget clams up. “She’s happy about the show, and about the state of her career,” he says, his eyes focussed on a spot about three feet to this reporter’s right.

“That’s Quinn Fabray,” our source taps the picture of Rachel’s public dinner with the until-now unidentified woman. “She works at the same place I do. I saw the pictures months ago of someone that looked just like her with Rachel Berry, but I thought, ‘no, it can’t be!’ But then last month those pictures of her at dinner come out, and I’m like, oh my god, Quinn dyed her hair just a couple of days before those pictures were taken! In a statement released to the media this morning by Rachel Berry’s publicist, it was revealed that the woman she’s been romantically linked to the last few months, Quinn Fabray, attempted suicide yesterday morning. “She was tortured,” the statement read. “The loss of her apartment, and her job, coupled with the completely disgusting tactics of the media in revealing her teenage pregnancy to the world left her feeling that she had no other choice. Miss Berry asks that everyone respect the privacy of both her and Miss Fabray in this difficult time, and reminds them that it was their actions at the root of this.” Asked for Miss Fabray’s condition, Miss Cohen-Chang would only say that she was hospitalised, and that her condition was critical but stable.

Cradled in Rachel’s arms, Quinn looks terribly small and fragile. Her wrists, bravely left bared for the photographs accompanying, show the scars of her suicide attempt. Despite Rachel’s reputation for verbosity, it’s Quinn that starts the interview off.
“Thank you for coming out,” she smiles weakly. I ask why she and Rachel requested this interview, and she smiles faintly.
“Because it was time. Everybody in the media seemed to want a piece of me, and I finally decided it was time to jump in front of it for a change instead of being dragged along behind. So, we’ll let you ask the questions.”
P: The Karofsky interview...
Q: What about it?
P: How much of it was true?
R: Quinn-
Q: It’s fine, Rach. We knew this question was coming. It’s true that I had a baby at sixteen, and that I gave her up. Pretty much everything else he said was a pack of lies. What Dave forgot to mention was that he’s a bully, a bigot, and a homophobe, and that seems to have coloured his memories of high school a little. I noticed he forgot to mention that his bullying of one of our classmates led to his expulsion from McKinley.
P: How much did that interview contribute to your attempt to take your life?
Q: Not as much as he’d like, I’m sure. It was the helplessness that made me do it. I’d lost my apartment, my livelihood, and any semblance of a normal life. My mother was harassed by phone to talk about her gay daughter’s relationship with the famous Broadway star Rachel Berry, my friends and co-workers were followed home by reporters - I was miserable. I guess we’d got away with keeping our relationship a secret for so long that I thought it would last forever.
P: And that’s the question on everyone’s minds, I think. When exactly did you two begin your relationship?
R: September.
P: The infamous picture outside Tiffany’s?
R: Yes. Quinn and I hadn’t seen each other since high school. We were - I won’t say enemies, but we didn’t get along.
Q: I’ll say it, we were enemies. (laugh) The cheerleader and the Glee Club nerd, we were destined to fight.
P: So what happened that day in September? What changed all of that?
R: Time. It had been years - and then I ran into her at Tiffany’s, literally. She didn’t recognise me at first-
Q: Actually, that’s not true.
R: What?
Q: Sorry, babe - I did. She was Rachel freakin’ Berry, of course I knew who she was. I was embarrassed, and a bit star-struck, and I didn’t think she’d give me the time of day - I was a horrible bitch to her in high school. So I pretended not to know her at first. We talked for a while, and arranged to get drinks the next day.
P: You two kept things pretty under wraps after that, though?
R: Yes - a lot of meetings in tiny bars, or at my house where she could be smuggled in without anyone noticing.
P: So, all of the allegations about your drug problem-
(both laugh)
R: Yes, that was Quinn’s fault. She was my personal heroin! I couldn’t get through the day without talking to her, and my work started to suffer a bit because I was much more concerned with arranging time with her than I was with doing dance steps. Finally, though, she convinced me to put my focus back on the show.
P: How did she do that?
R: Uh - I don’t think we should get into that.
P: Right. So, moving on - was your newfound relationship the reason you ended things with Jesse St. James?
R: (laugh) Before I say anything else - I have his permission to tell you this, so don’t worry. I never dated Jesse. The media totally fabricated that, and we played along because I wasn’t ready to come out yet. He was my beard - and I was his.
P: Whoa! You mean-
R: I mean. I know that’ll break some hearts, but it’s true. He’s dating an old classmate of mine, actually, and I wish the two of them the best.
P: Unbelievable. You two certainly kept each other’s secret well.
R: Thank you!
P: Now, I imagine you can guess what my next question is.
Q: How did it feel to get outed by a co-worker? For some nosy temp looking for her five minutes of fame to break it to the whole world that not only was I gay, I was dating Rachel Berry?
P: Got it in one.
Q: It was horrific. Imagine having your mother have to hear one of the most important, personal things about her daughter from some reporter - that she’s a lesbian. I cried for days. She cried for days.
P: And how is your relationship now?
Q: My mother is a very tolerant, understanding woman, and I love her very much.
P: Care to expand on that at all?
Q: Nope, I sure don’t.
P: Rachel, I wonder if you could tell us a bit about the day Quinn tried to kill herself?
R: (takes a deep breath, exhales slowly. Quinn grabs her hands and holds on tight - it’s a transfer of strength that seems to bring new color to Rachel’s cheeks.) Sure. I called her that morning, and she didn’t answer - which was weird, since Quinn had never missed one of my calls, ever. So I called the front desk of the hotel she was staying in, and they tried calling her. Still no answer. And that’s when I started to panic. I called the police, and I left the rehearsal I was in. I beat the police there, and I opened the door with the key she’d left me. She- (her voice trembles) she was in the bath. There was so much blood. I screamed - I don’t know that I stopped screaming until the paramedics took her from me.
P: I certainly understand your anger with the media, but the reporters involved claim they were simply doing their jobs.
R: (angrily) I know what their jobs are. I understand the role you people play in the lives of the famous, but there was no excuse for what was done to Quinn. Her entire life was ruined, all for the sake a few articles. I just hope that all of them - and they know who they are - they’re proud of themselves for nearly killing someone.
P: So, what comes next for Rachel and Quinn?
R: Well, Quinn lives with me now. I asked her to move in a week ago, and she delighted me by agreeing.
P: Congratulations.
Q: Thank you. Rachel’s convinced me to take a run at my old dream, as well - I’m taking dance classes, and I’m hoping that one day we can be in a show together - her as the sexy lead, me as one of the dancers.
R: I know she can do it.
The two of them share a look that makes me wish I could quietly slip away. It speaks unending volumes about their love, their dedication to each other, and their determination to build a life together despite all the hard times that have led them here. Suddenly Quinn seems to remember that they’re not alone, and returns her attention to me.
Q: Sorry. Uh, was there anything else?
P: No, I think I’ve got everything I need.
Q: Good, the housekeeper will show you out. Come on, Rach.
She takes Rachel’s hand and leads her away, leaving no doubt in my mind the reason for their sudden departure.

“Quinn?” he scoffs. “She was a cheerleader - the head cheerleader, you know? Got herself knocked up at sixteen, had to give her baby away for adoption. Big scandal - her family’s like, super religious, and there was an epic screaming match. I mean, I wasn’t there, you know, I just heard. When she finished high school, she couldn’t get out of town fast enough. I mean, I can’t blame her - I’d have hightailed it too, if everyone thought I was a slut.”

“TORTURED” FABRAY ATTEMPTS TO TAKE OWN LIFE
In a statement released to the media this morning by Rachel Berry’s publicist, it was revealed that the woman she’s been romantically linked to the last few months, Quinn Fabray, attempted suicide yesterday morning. “She was tortured,” the statement read. “The loss of her apartment, and her job, coupled with the completely disgusting tactics of the media in revealing her teenage pregnancy to the world left her feeling that she had no other choice. Miss Berry asks that everyone respect the privacy of both her and Miss Fabray in this difficult time, and reminds them that it was their actions at the root of this.” Asked for Miss Fabray’s condition, Miss Cohen-Chang would only say that she was hospitalised, and that her condition was critical but stable.

RACHEL BERRY AND QUINN FABRAY SPEAK
Cradled in Rachel’s arms, Quinn looks terribly small and fragile. Her wrists, bravely left bared for the photographs accompanying, show the scars of her suicide attempt. Despite Rachel’s reputation for verbosity, it’s Quinn that starts the interview off.
“Thank you for coming out,” she smiles weakly. I ask why she and Rachel requested this interview, and she smiles faintly.
“Because it was time. Everybody in the media seemed to want a piece of me, and I finally decided it was time to jump in front of it for a change instead of being dragged along behind. So, we’ll let you ask the questions.”
P: The Karofsky interview...
Q: What about it?
P: How much of it was true?
R: Quinn-
Q: It’s fine, Rach. We knew this question was coming. It’s true that I had a baby at sixteen, and that I gave her up. Pretty much everything else he said was a pack of lies. What Dave forgot to mention was that he’s a bully, a bigot, and a homophobe, and that seems to have coloured his memories of high school a little. I noticed he forgot to mention that his bullying of one of our classmates led to his expulsion from McKinley.
P: How much did that interview contribute to your attempt to take your life?
Q: Not as much as he’d like, I’m sure. It was the helplessness that made me do it. I’d lost my apartment, my livelihood, and any semblance of a normal life. My mother was harassed by phone to talk about her gay daughter’s relationship with the famous Broadway star Rachel Berry, my friends and co-workers were followed home by reporters - I was miserable. I guess we’d got away with keeping our relationship a secret for so long that I thought it would last forever.
P: And that’s the question on everyone’s minds, I think. When exactly did you two begin your relationship?
R: September.
P: The infamous picture outside Tiffany’s?
R: Yes. Quinn and I hadn’t seen each other since high school. We were - I won’t say enemies, but we didn’t get along.
Q: I’ll say it, we were enemies. (laugh) The cheerleader and the Glee Club nerd, we were destined to fight.
P: So what happened that day in September? What changed all of that?
R: Time. It had been years - and then I ran into her at Tiffany’s, literally. She didn’t recognise me at first-
Q: Actually, that’s not true.
R: What?
Q: Sorry, babe - I did. She was Rachel freakin’ Berry, of course I knew who she was. I was embarrassed, and a bit star-struck, and I didn’t think she’d give me the time of day - I was a horrible bitch to her in high school. So I pretended not to know her at first. We talked for a while, and arranged to get drinks the next day.
P: You two kept things pretty under wraps after that, though?
R: Yes - a lot of meetings in tiny bars, or at my house where she could be smuggled in without anyone noticing.
P: So, all of the allegations about your drug problem-
(both laugh)
R: Yes, that was Quinn’s fault. She was my personal heroin! I couldn’t get through the day without talking to her, and my work started to suffer a bit because I was much more concerned with arranging time with her than I was with doing dance steps. Finally, though, she convinced me to put my focus back on the show.
P: How did she do that?
R: Uh - I don’t think we should get into that.
P: Right. So, moving on - was your newfound relationship the reason you ended things with Jesse St. James?
R: (laugh) Before I say anything else - I have his permission to tell you this, so don’t worry. I never dated Jesse. The media totally fabricated that, and we played along because I wasn’t ready to come out yet. He was my beard - and I was his.
P: Whoa! You mean-
R: I mean. I know that’ll break some hearts, but it’s true. He’s dating an old classmate of mine, actually, and I wish the two of them the best.
P: Unbelievable. You two certainly kept each other’s secret well.
R: Thank you!
P: Now, I imagine you can guess what my next question is.
Q: How did it feel to get outed by a co-worker? For some nosy temp looking for her five minutes of fame to break it to the whole world that not only was I gay, I was dating Rachel Berry?
P: Got it in one.
Q: It was horrific. Imagine having your mother have to hear one of the most important, personal things about her daughter from some reporter - that she’s a lesbian. I cried for days. She cried for days.
P: And how is your relationship now?
Q: My mother is a very tolerant, understanding woman, and I love her very much.
P: Care to expand on that at all?
Q: Nope, I sure don’t.
P: Rachel, I wonder if you could tell us a bit about the day Quinn tried to kill herself?
R: (takes a deep breath, exhales slowly. Quinn grabs her hands and holds on tight - it’s a transfer of strength that seems to bring new color to Rachel’s cheeks.) Sure. I called her that morning, and she didn’t answer - which was weird, since Quinn had never missed one of my calls, ever. So I called the front desk of the hotel she was staying in, and they tried calling her. Still no answer. And that’s when I started to panic. I called the police, and I left the rehearsal I was in. I beat the police there, and I opened the door with the key she’d left me. She- (her voice trembles) she was in the bath. There was so much blood. I screamed - I don’t know that I stopped screaming until the paramedics took her from me.
P: I certainly understand your anger with the media, but the reporters involved claim they were simply doing their jobs.
R: (angrily) I know what their jobs are. I understand the role you people play in the lives of the famous, but there was no excuse for what was done to Quinn. Her entire life was ruined, all for the sake a few articles. I just hope that all of them - and they know who they are - they’re proud of themselves for nearly killing someone.
P: So, what comes next for Rachel and Quinn?
R: Well, Quinn lives with me now. I asked her to move in a week ago, and she delighted me by agreeing.
P: Congratulations.
Q: Thank you. Rachel’s convinced me to take a run at my old dream, as well - I’m taking dance classes, and I’m hoping that one day we can be in a show together - her as the sexy lead, me as one of the dancers.
R: I know she can do it.
The two of them share a look that makes me wish I could quietly slip away. It speaks unending volumes about their love, their dedication to each other, and their determination to build a life together despite all the hard times that have led them here. Suddenly Quinn seems to remember that they’re not alone, and returns her attention to me.
Q: Sorry. Uh, was there anything else?
P: No, I think I’ve got everything I need.
Q: Good, the housekeeper will show you out. Come on, Rach.
She takes Rachel’s hand and leads her away, leaving no doubt in my mind the reason for their sudden departure.
