I've not gotten around to this -- or any of the big year-end Oscar contenders yet. I know. Shame on me. But the controversy over the film's intent seems ridiculous. Who could believe that Scorsese would, at this point in his life and career, make a movie to advocate this kind of behavior? Then again, there were those who claimed he was "glorifying" Travis Bickle, Rupert Pupkin, Jake LaMotta, and Henry Hill, too. If you wanted to be any of THOSE guys, there's something terribly wrong with you.

Well, you make a point of attending those Best Picture showcases, so you have a good excuse for holding off.

People might be likening him to Gordon Gecko of Wall Street. That was meant to condemn that sort of behavior, but many Wall Street Bankers have said that they were inspired by Michael Douglas character, which may (or may not) have led to the financial meltdowns.
