Jessica's room at the Arms, Tuesday late afternoon

Mar 17, 2015 13:15

It had been a good day. While she wasn't feeling great, Jessica was feeling better. She didn't have the energy she did a week ago, but that could be masked with coffee for now and her injuries were healing. Even better, Peter called her and let her know that due to some kind of time weirdness, the war with the Inheritors was already over. The ( Read more... )

Minako hadn't gotten to see Jess during the whole... everything over the weekend. But once she heard her senpai was still around, well, there wasn't really a good reason not to go see her.

So there was a Minako knocking on her door, with a an extra-large box of pizza balanced on one hand and some sodas tucked under her arm. "Uh, Jessica-san? It's Minako and I have food?"

Food would probably be a good idea. It wasn't as though Jessica wasn't going to answer the door without that extra lure, but it didn't hurt!

"I'm not actually sure how everyone knows what room I'm in," Jessica said after opening the door. "But I'm not complaining. Hey, Minako. Come in." Congrats, Minako. Now you also got to see Jessica in costume without her mask on. She did not have other clothes with her right now.

"I offered a squirrel a soda," she explained, matter-of-factly. "When that failed, I asked the front desk."

What? Minako was blonde, not dumb.

The costume was gonna get a blink of surprise, though. "Uh, is this a bad time? Were you on your way out to fight more evil? I mean, I really hope we got them all, but we can put the pizza in the fridge if you need to patrol now."

"No, this is my casual wear right now," Jessica said, motioning toward the desk so Minako wouldn't have to just hold the pizza the whole time. "It's what I came here in and I've spent the past couple days resting and healing up, so I'm kind of stuck in terms of clothes until I can get something new tomorrow."

Yay desk! Minako bounced the rest of the way and began setting up the dinner. "You know, you could always text me or one of the other girls. Be all 'hey, what's up, saved the world, got a pair of sweats I can borrow?'" she teased, shaking her head. "I woulda brought you soup or something sooner if I knew you were still here."

"Honestly, the plan was to be gone by now," Jessica said. "But there seem to be some issues with getting back to my world."

Minako made a face. "Weird," she empathized. "But, well, you know Fandom. The big computery-thingy is probably still thinking deep thoughts, or Portalocity feel asleep at their terminals again. I mean, they can't even get the time between my universe and here to synch-up properly! I've been here for years, but my mom still thinks I'm at summer camp! Totally bogus."

"That doesn't explain why I can't get through to anyone back home by calling or texting," Jessica said. She had the voice of someone who had already worked through the possibility of the proposed explanations and couldn't quite get them to fit the situation snugly.

"Yeah, then, I got nothing," she said sympathetically. "Except pizza? I got super-big since, um, I'm a growing girl and you're in recovery. So, clearly we both need to eat more."

She dug in her backpack, coming out with paper plates and napkins. "TADA! While The Great Pizza cannot cure all ills, it does pretty good in the short term!"

"Fortunately, I am hungry," Jessica said. Energy drain will do that to you. "You mentioned the computer? So you were part of the expedition under the island?"

"Yup! I ended up meeting up with people by accident, and then we went underground, and I dropped rocks on the clone-guys' heads, and then Miss Pryde pulled us all up to the surface, which was way cool."

Minako pushed up the sleeve of her hoodie, and Jessica might be able to see the faint remaining marks from where she'd gotten nailed by the darts. "Still totally itch like crazy, but I cleaned them all up right away, and now it's no worse than getting scratched by my cat."

"Technically, they weren't clones," said someone who would know. "They were alternate universe variations on a guys Spider-Men and -Women tend to fight. Anyway, good job. If you guys hadn't managed that, I definitely wouldn't be here right now."

"Whomever they were," Minako said as she helped herself to a rather large slice of cheese pizza, "--their fashion choices were super-unfortunate. I mean, that's practically begging to be arrested."

Sometimes, Minako had really weird priorities.

"But I'm glad you're safe, or getting better, or whatever," she continued, stuffing her face. "Though I'll admit, I'm not thrilled about trapping them in the basement of the island. I know they're supposedly gone now, but I'd feel better if someone actually, you know, checked."

"They weren't trapped," Jessica assured her. "They came back out of the tunnel eventually. I checked later in the afternoon to make sure there wasn't anyone around to undo the work you guys did, and it was clear."

There were hours between the fight post and Jessica's hotel post on Saturday, True Believer! Plenty of time to do that!
