"Feels like it was as close as possible," Jessica said. "She got Ben. The last thing he did was scan her. No body, though. Apparently clones in his world have a tendency to disintegrate. I kind of learned that once."

"She drained me a little bit," Jessica said. "For like two seconds. But that's more than enough, because she followed it up by kicking my ass. I barely had the strength to make it across the causeway once it was clear she was blocked."

After cleaning herself up at the dorms, Sia made her way back into town and up to Jessica's room, where she knocked on the door. And sure, bruises were already springing up all over and everything was achy but at least she wouldn't have to answer 'what happened' questions.

"Have you ever had life force drained out of you?" Jessica asked. It was a legitimate question. "If not, it sucks. I feel like I've been sleepwalking for hours. While getting the worst ass-kicking of my life. Are you okay, relatively speaking?"
