Tin Can Boxes...

I found this tutorial for upcycling tin cans into little boxes on Pinterest, and decided I had to try it. Sanding the paint off is pretty tedious, and if you're not careful you can score the metal too hard and then the whole thing falls apart when you're trying to fold it. But, if everything goes like it's supposed to, you end up with a really cute ( Read more... )

This left me scratching my head a bit, but I was able to see enough of the Instructable to get the gist. I agree, practice makes perfect in this case. The second one looks pretty good!

Yeah, I must have watched the video five or six times while I was making the first box. I'm really jealous of how neat his lines are. I've been using a ruler and my boxes still turn out a little lopsided.

great idea! i always struggle about how to present little things without spending on a gift box! the only thing is that i will have to by a couple cans of soda which i don't usually do.
your boxes are genuine and from heart, it does not matter that lines are not perfect. perfection is not existent in this world anyway.

Thanks. :-)
One of the reasons I love this idea is because I can make something to put little gifts in without having to go through the hassle of wrapping it. I am just awful with wrapping paper. I usually just get a gift bag, and sometimes don't even bother with that. Now I can make them a cute little gift box!

Those turned out cool. Nice work! To change things up, you could use an existing box for the bottom and make only the lid with this technique. Or when you do make an entire box, you could make the lid with shorter/shallower sides to show off the designs on the sides of the base. Or you could cover an existing little box to hide a logo/seasonal design or to turn a candy box into a jewelry box, etc. Lots of possibilities!
