A few FO's and a question

Aug 16, 2014 17:02

I'm working on a project currently that I'm a little unclear on the directions, and I know it's because I'm over thinking it, but I can't make up my mind what it should be.

It lists the instructions for rows 3-6, and then says:
Next Rows: [Rep rows 3-6 consectutively] 5[6, 7, 8] times, ending last rep with row 3 ( Read more... )

hats, crochet

The way most pattern writers would want that interpreted is work rows 1-6, then repeat 3-6 an additional six times in your case for a total of seven repeats all together. And yes, for the last repeat, stop after row 3.

I love those hats! Do you have a pattern for the second last one? It's gorgeous and looks quite warm as well.

That's kind of what I thought, but I asked a couple of my non-crocheting friends/family and for every one person that said that it didn't include rows 1-6 in the repeats there was someone that did, and nobody could give me any input on the end on row 3.

If you search Ravelry for "Women's Peaked Cap" by Patons you should find it. I would directly link you but it sounds like LJ flags links as spam now-a-days :)

Edited to add a Thank you, because I got too excited about sharing the pattern to remember to say thanks :x

You'll repeat the pattern a total of 7 times then start another repeat but only do row 3.

You do very good work. How long have you been crocheting?

Thank you! I knew I was completely over thinking it.

Thank you so much for the compliment! TL;DR: I've been crocheting for about a year.

When I was a kid I knew how to chain and how to single crochet but I didn't know how to turn at the end of a row and go back the other way or anything, but I picked it up and taught myself how to crochet about a year ago and started by making amigurumi and then branched out to hats and have been trying to grow a little with each pattern, though I primarily make hats. I try really hard to make things look very nice, neat and professional because I'd like to make a living off of what I make. I'm also a hopeless perfectionist and have been known to tear out an entire project because of an incorrect stitch that I didn't catch several rows before, which I don't think is terribly uncommon!

Hehe, even the most experienced of us make mistakes at times. However, most of us learn to let go of that perfectionist side and leave small mistakes in as "creative improvisation". Besides, they mark the item as handmade and not machine made.

There are lots of videos showing how to do things and different methods of doing almost everything. I'd check out some of the tips on starting a row without using chains and make that your habit now. I found out how to do it after decades of using chain stitches to turn my rows and it was a hard habit to change but so worth the look of your items.
