Cleaning question...

Checked the FAQ, saw nothing...need help!

My lovely, sweet, wonderful Sam used my sewing scissors to cut duct tape with. *gasp!*

Does anyone know a quick way to get the nasty-stickies off of the blades?? I've tried soap and water and it's just not cutting it. No pun intended, har-har.

duct tape, adhesives

Lighter fluid (the liquid kind, obviously, not butane). Actually, any kerosene type stuff (I've used the lamp oil from my glass lamps before) will take off adhesive.

Goo B Gone is probably a little less flammable, though.

Have you tried lighter fluid? I know that's good for wax and gooey things. Or maybe alcohol, since that's helpful for bandaid scunge.

oil and an old washcloth and careful application of pressure. don't hurt yourself, though!

Thanks, I will be careful. ^_^

The oil will work right now, and I'll have to look into the Goo Gone stuff next time I'm out.

Thanks!!

Goo Gone is probably a combination of orange oil and alcohol. I use it on really tough things, but I find that plain old oil (olive or safflower, in my case) works most of the time. On non-latex adhesives, dishsoap, alcohol, or something stinky like mineral spirits or lighter fluid usually does the trick.

If worst comes to worst, try making a mild paste with baking soda or bartender's friend and water and gently scrubbing at the goo.

Then, hide the scissors from people who don't know any better, then go duct tape their ears to the wall. ;)

LOL! No kidding! I had a momentary lapse and left them on the dining room table!

Rubbing alcohol removes adhesives and permanent marker from smooth non porous surfaces. You may have to apply it a couple of times or you can soak it. I use the 91%. It costs maybe 35 cents for a good sized bottle.

hmmm...I've found that my body oil removes almost anything sticky or gooey...a bit expensive obviously but amazing when there's nothing else on hand...
