Discussion question time!

We have an issue that has been bothering several people for quite some time, and to be honest, it'd be a good idea to address them to the comm as a whole and stop ignoring it.

Kurumi made a post on May 13 asking for a roll call; she then mentioned it again in June. Several people responded, but there were a handful that didn't. We have ( Read more... )

A. So like, if someone has, say, seven characters and only ever does ANYTHING with three, and completely ignores the other four, doesn't care about them, doesn't have any plans for them, and is for lack of better words just sitting on them, that's okay because the mun is active? Not trying to be argumentative here, I'm just curious.

Actually, I was wondering the same thing.

Whoof. Some part of me is fond of the 'ha ha ha we don't need no steekin rules' aspect, but this is possibly merely nostalgia, and I won't really fight for it.

I think, if rules are instated, that a month without contact sound like inactivity to me. Contact may be said to include 'yo!', 'holy shit going out of the country don't sacrifice Starscream to the volcano gods while I'm gone,' or 'Don't you even think about sacrificing ME, the glorious Starscream, to the volcano gods!'

That said, I agree with Dino about the priorities here - figuring out what to do with characters and players that are inactive seems of higher priority than setting guidelines for the future.

Agree all around.
Maybe for those inactive, we could sent them a message? Like a "Hey, you still there type of thing."?

That seems very reasonable, I think.

I think guidelines is more our style, in any case. I mean, seriously, none of us would WANT to enforce a rule. It's more like a "plz2be considerate" thing, maybe? Like spelling at least somewhat decently, and not making an ass of yourself.

I don't think that this could be twisted into anything other than what it is, solely because we wouldn't just have one person write it up and slap it up as a guideline or rule or whatever you'd call it. There'd still be tons of community discussion, one way or another. There'd still be another post, going "What do you think of this, what should we add/change" and then there would be like another couple of weeks debating that kind of stuff.

Sia suggested more of a "mun activity guideline" below and I kind of think that might be more what we're looking for. Not sure, though.

"They're more like guidelines, anyway."

I agree with the guidelines idea. We can have a Cracktrans Code, but if we're going for rules, then we may as well need ways to enforce that - mods. And while I have nothing against mods in general and that the democracy we run with can get aggravating at times, here's my two cents.

After 2+ months of no posting/chatting/IMing from anyone - char is considered inactive. Able to be picked up by anyone who wants to join in. Other mun comes back and complains, it's up to the new claimer whether or not they want to give up the character.

ADDENDUM: If a mun is active but they're sitting on a character that hasn't been used that someone wants to play, talk with the mun first. If they have no plans to use that character, they don't have much of a claim.

I like that idea. I have a couple chars I don't know what to do with anymore, and I'd like to see them get a good home but...

The lack of mod thing actually made me pretty wary at first but, well, I'm sort of fond of the concept now. And... the game's not dead yet which wins it so many points. So I guess that means a preference for guidelines as opposed to rules for me too.

A. Inactive... was always about two weeks in the games I've followed/played before and implied actual interaction, but that really doesn't seem to fit with this game at all.
B. I suppose so; it certainly seems doable. At least a mention of future disappearings along with a plausible reason?
