A great overview! Sadly I came too late into the fandom so that almost everyone already left it. Still I found some wonderful jewels and I look forward to find new ones through you (also maybe to see if you have the same favorites ;) ).

Also popular is the OT3 of Marcus/Cottia/Esca (which is basically what the book ships whether Sutcliff meant it to or not).

I'm pretty sure Sutcliff shipped it on some level. Protag/love interest/best friend almost-threesomes are a theme in her books, as are bordering-on-romantic BFFs. :-P

I'd note that while there's a lot of fusiony stuff that brings book elements into movie fic, the actual book fandom was/is almost separate from the movie fandom.
