We interrupt your regularly scheduled recs for a very important issue.
Crack Impala is recruiting! We believe that it is time for a new recruitment drive. We've sadly lost a few Imps lately due to other commitments and, while applications are open all day, every day, we think it's time to be more proactive. Please, if you've ever considered joining, or thought, "Geez, I could do that better than those schmucks," put your money where your mouth is and volunteer!
The process is very simple, and the necessary information can be found
here.
Also, because of the size of the fandom and how big this community has gotten, we wanted to just add several things about how we roll as there is occasionally some confusion about what our hard-working team is here to do. We don't want anyone to be confused about our policies so we have outlined them here for you as well as provided information about what we are looking for from reccers.
What makes a good reccer?
1. Read, read and read some more! Our reccers need to be able to rec at least one recent fic every week. You are welcome to rec more! We need people who are reading what is being written right now. 2. Love sharing your finds with others and be able to tell them why it's a must read. That's all!
How do we find and consider fic?
The vast majority of the Impalaettes rec via
spnnewsletter. We trawl it every week in our section and try to read as many fics as possible. So if you want us to see your fic, you need to play by the newsletter rules, especially regarding headers. We are aware that this is not ideal, as many fics (eg. those not posted to the communities, or posted outside Livejournal altogether) don't make it onto the newsletter, but we are only human and can only read a certain number of fics in a week. If you want to help us make this system more ideal, please see above and volunteer. We encourage those of you regularly reading at other communities such as Dreamwidth & AO3 to apply, as we would love to broaden the representation here at CI to encompass all of this vast fandom!
Who do we rec?
Anyone and everyone we come across who writes really great fic! We're all doing the best we can to read everything, the editors and reccers are both finding so many brilliant new authors we never knew existed. To that end we try to make a real effort to promote new authors whenever we can and we all actively seek out authors whose names we don't recognise.
At the same time, it has to be acknowledged that there are writers in fandom who are just consistently good, and whose fics constantly show up on our lists. We do not go straight to those people's journals to find their fics to rec. We are not more likely to click on their names in the newsletter. If people are recced consistently it is because their fics are consistently good. We're not going to punish them for that. Several of the Impalaettes are also writers, and there is no internal obligation to rec another Impalaette. Indeed, in the spirit of trying to keep things as fair as possible, we also have a double-(or more)-rec policy for reccing work by one of our team.
How do we rec?
This is very much a group effort. You'll always find a list of the current Impalaettes in our userinfo, and each and every person on that list makes recs, even though you only see the section editor who codes and posts the edition each week. However, the recs do not just come from those seven people alone! The recs in each edition come from several different people, who write up the recs and hand them over to be html-ed up and posted. We try to bring you the most rencet, and as wide and varied a selection of the good stuff that we can, but there are only so many hours in the day which is why we are very much focused on teamwork and as wide a group of reccers as we can get our hands on.
Have a question, concern or some other kind of feedback?
We are aware of the potential of such a community to create resentment in people who are not recced, but the point of
crack_impala is not to make people feel bad, but to share the things we find great and wonderful so that as many people as possible can enjoy them! We hope you will take the community in that spirit as well. If you have a grievance, we politely ask that you direct it to crackimpala@gmail.com or PM either of the mods.
You can find important announcements under
mod tag.
Our spoiler policy can be found
here.
Thank you all so much for your support and we hope you continue to enjoy the wonderful work that this fandom provides. We hope that we will be able to continue to be your source for some of the good stuff, and we will continue to work even harder to provide you with even better things!
Your mods,
