I've always been afraid of something like that. :( If we were closer, I'd say you could board your chickens here for the duration so you could just get out.

Oh, god - I'm very glad you're getting out of that house - these people are NUTS! Good for you for getting the word out too, silence only helps them.

Anything we can do to help? If you need a deposit for a new place, I could throw in $20 (not much, but I bet I wouldn't be the only one).

And I thought the crap I'm experiencing with my neighbours was shit - at least the police is incompetent, not biased here... isn't there some sort of, you know, a national police supervison you could complain to about misconduct?

I was linked here by kickair8p.

What you do depends very strongly on where you live and the culture of the area.

First, regardless: get a cell phone that takes photos. Every time something happens take pictures and *immediately* upload them to the cloud (gmail, for instance). Take "before" photos now of all doors and windows ( ... )

I know you don't know me directly, but this is very similar to the utter hell we've lived with for the past year. We're just now starting to scrape our life back together and seriously, if you have to beg, borrow or steal to do it: Get a lawyer, and get him working with you now. Chase DFS around and make them give you a written list of what they want from you, and make them sign it off as you complete them. Take pictures of your house - yourself - and make sure there are dates. Chase police, sheriff's offices and anyone you have to chase so you know what's going on. Make calls, ask about charges and actiosn that may be pending, call the damn state attorney if you have to (commonwealth attorney in Virginia, district attorney other places) or think they may try to press criminal charges.

Also: Take your kids to the doctor. Take yourself for a mental health evaluation or to the doctor. Keep records and dates for all of it. Do anything you can to make yourself active rather than reactive. Stay a step ahead of them as much as you can, basically.

If you think they're going to file criminal charges (or might) get a lawyer now.

If you think they're going to try to commit you, get that mental health assessment done on your time, with someone you trust and isn't in their pocket.

If you think they're going to claim abuse, get the kids to the doctor and get their homeschooling records/test results in hand now.

No matter how scary it gets, the worst thing you can do right now is sit still and see what they're going to do next. Don't hide, and if you run - run toward them, screaming and flailing and armed with paperwork and information.

Thanks. I've already taken some steps. It's a scheduling question now.

I understand that completely, and I really hope I didn't come across as bossy or patronizing. It's terrifying, it's horrifying, and it's just plain WRONG. I'm sorry you're having to deal with it.
