If I was trying to do a comprehensive critique of Obama, it would become my career. :p

But, yeah. I wish it wasn't so. Clearly, I was cynical about Obama before he took office (but cynicism is pretty cowardly, so I understand why people dismiss it - any asshole can say things are going to end poorly and gloat when they do, after all) but I'm still disappointed. I really wanted to be wrong about this one. I've wanted to be be wrong about all of them, but it's been a long time since I could bring myself to like a politician based on his or her deeds.

For me, the most terrible thing is the anti-politics that this is going to breed. A lot of good people really put their hearts behind this guy and he's going to break a lot of hearts. Which means next time they'll be cynical when we really do need hope.

Me, I hear Nixon. And Charles I. And Louis XIV.

Grabbing power is what politicians do: the only difference between Left and Right is the rhetoric employed.

How can you hear Charles I and Louis XIV?! They were dead before recording technology was invented. ;)

Oh, sure, grabbing power is what politicians do. I've been saying for years that power is corruption. Not invited it, not promotes, not even causes it. Power is corruption. But we've still got to do something about it. ;)
