I heard about this on the news this morning but it doesn't seem to be circulating on the wire yet. The mayor of SF issued an order to the city clerk's office to not discriminate against gender or sexual orientation when issuing marriage licenses thus opening the way for same-sex marriage licenses. This could throw the issue into the CA court

Voters passed a measure in 2000 that prohibits California from recognizing same-sex marriages from other states and defines marriage as between a man and a woman.
If the CA State Constitution protects equal rights, I'm surprised that this ballot initiative didn't land the issue in the courts.
It's a hugely interesting issue. Too bad the public debate doesn't look like it'll be carried on at an intelligent level.
