I'll take
sailalias's challenge:
List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your Livejournal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to...
1. Journey "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" If you think this is cheesy, just stop reading right now. It'll get worse. JOURNEY RULES.
2. Stevie Wonder "Superstition" Somehow I keep catching this song on the radio and that main synth riff is one of the best in all of pop music.
3. John Hiatt "Memphis in the Meantime" How this man has been coasting along under most people's radars for decades is beyond me. The album that this track is on, Bring the Family is truly great music. Many people know "Have a Little Faith in Me," which is on here, as well as "Thing Called Love," as covered by Bonnie Raitt.
4. Kenny Loggins "Danny's Song" The true guilty pleasure on the list. This is so horrifically sappy, and I love listening to it.
5. Live "Dance With You" Not exactly wedding fare, but I wouldn't mind it being spun in June. It's a beautiful song (despite my being pretty sure that lyrics are meant to be interpreted as an embrace of death as symbolized in a lover's arms).
6. Loretta Lynn (w/ Jack White) "Portland Oregon" I hold that this is one of the best songs released in 2004, though for the life of me I can't even begin to explain why. There's so much subtext between the lyrics, and Loretta's voice is this heavenly heartbreaker.
7. Tick, Tick...BOOM "Therapy"
The lyrics don't do this song justice. It's hilariously frantic, with the voices of the two characters weaving through one another. And since I am quite thoroughly psyched for the Rent movie about to come out (despite Chris Columbus), I had to put something by Jonathan Larson on the list.
Maybe tomorrow I'll do seven more. Seven was not nearly enough.
