Ugh.

Mar 16, 2016 10:40

Yesterday was not a great day. I'm not even going to talk about yesterday's round of Presidential primaries and what all that means. I'm not even going to talk about waking up with pinkeye. Again. As always seems to happen this time of year when the oak pollen hits and my allergies flare. Nah, let's talk about the pool ( Read more... )

Last night was depressing, to be sure. :/ I don't want to talk about it either!

Oh man, sorry that on top of ^^ and pink eye, you had pool drama to attend to. And that sucks that you'll now miss out on your road trip, but at least you will get those few days off. Are your daughters disappointed to not be going on the trip?

I've been stewing and digesting on the primary stuff. And I may as well gift you with the results ( ... )

In OH, he was projected to lose by 8 and lost by 14, but I suspect that's because OH has semi-open primaries and a lot of independents (who in other states have gone Bernie's way) cast their vote for Kasich in order to derail Trump.

I suspect you are right. My family live in Ohio and my father implied that he wanted Kasich to win so I think it's a combination of the fact that he's the governor and anything to derail Trump at this point. Sadly, I don't think there IS any derailing him at this point so it's looking like a Democrat for President - at least that is what I hope.

Can we just throw out the rule of only two terms and keep Obama at this point? He's got his cons but I prefer him over the idiots we have running besides Bernie.

I can just about get behind that, especially if we're talking about the no-f--ks-left-to-give Obama of the past year or so. :)

I really am afraid for this country. I keep saying it to everyone, but I feel like we are the laughing stock of the world right now, a total joke. I really do fear for our country.

Sorry things seem to be falling apart a bit and I hope your pink eye recovers soon - that's never fun. Better things on the way, I hope for you. xx

Yes, you would think this year's shenanigans would convince us that our system is broken, something the rest of the world has been well aware of for some time. But no, a completely terrifying portion of our populace thinks Trump would make a fine leader of the free world. It is very disheartening to realize exactly how much of our collective future rests on the impulses of absolute morons and despicable racists.

Thanks, I hope so too! :)

At this point I am really concerned about the movie Idiocracy becoming a legit documentary rather than a total satire of how the rest of the world views us. It's really upsetting to know how many racist and ignorant people we HAVE. And the racism isn't all focused in one place either - that's the sad part! In the election, it's towards Muslims, but all over the country the different races are against each other and it's noticeable in poorer areas for sure ( ... )

Seems like every election, people say The Stakes Are So High! But this year that seems more actually true than ever. I mean, take a year like 1996--economy was going great, 9/11 and all that came after wasn't even in anyone's imagination, all that was on the table was how best to keep the good days rolling. That's definitely not the case this year. Not only are we still reeling from the financial crisis, still seeing a middle class in decline, faced with the threats of terrorism and climate change.. suddenly we have this huge, long-dormant faction of angry racists clamoring to elect someone who can only be described as a post-truth authoritarian demagogue reminiscent of every backwards African dictator you've ever seen. I mean really, as Trevor Noah has pointed out a few times, the man just needs a uniform with a few dozen fake medals and he'd be perfect for the part ( ... )

Why do you get the easy things? I'm on year 3 of trying to find SOMEONE to redo the pool deck. The concrete is cracking and needs painting. Ain't nobody can do it.

Oh yes, I can be out there with a roller and latex house paint but I also happen to know that you do not use caulk to patch the cracks nor do you use latex to paint concrete pool decks. And yes, those are genuine pool deck contractors who have come out and given estimates.

Plus, the inside of the pool is...well, it's getting a little...worn. We've had to do some spot patching and because it's got some pits, the mold likes to grow in those best. Real soon, the whole thing is going to have to be drained and redone. And great. I can't find someone for the outside. How am I going to find someone for the inside?

Yeah, we could use work on the deck as well, and there are a few spots on the pool floor that could look better. Not to mention I need some screen replaced on the enclosure. Ugh, it's all a pain in the ass. I'm moving to a log cabin in the woods.

Oh god yeah, the screened enclosure! If you find someone, let me know who. Same for me.

I'm going to attempt some of it myself, if I can find screen large enough. Which probably means I may wake up dead at some point next week. :)
