I'm a teensy bit excited today, so I just have to share. Following is a bit of video-gaming geekery, so please feel free to skip if that's not your bag, baby

Man, be careful with your game machines. We had a PlayStation 3. Bought it when it came out. Last week we were playing, no problem, finally did an update we've been putting off...and now it no longer works. Yeah, the upgraded OS doesn't work with the older machines and there's no way to go back and they don't give a shit. Looking on the internet to fix, so far, nope. Go buy a PlayStation 4 is the answer. Fuck them.
Yeah, I've really never felt the urge to move up to the latest few generations of PlayStation or XBox consoles. They're basically PCs that can only do a portion of what PCs do, so why not just get a damn PC? There have been games here and there that I would love to check out (Last of Us, I'm lookin at you), but most everything I'm interested in comes out for PC, so I'm content.
The one thing consoles do better than PCs, of course, is multiplayer. We could play over the LAN, I suppose, but our PCs are scattered around the house and there are other headaches involved with that, so just grabbing a controller for some multiplayer fun on the Wii has been good. And Nintendo is the most kid-friendly, of course, though Mario Kart is about the only Nintendo-specific game we regularly play. Plus I hacked the Wii to play downloaded games off of an external HDD, because games are too damn expensive. :) Now that I know the WiiU can be similarly hacked.. gimme!
Last of Us sucked, man. It's totally on rails. It's like a slightly interactive movie. You make no decisions. You just play what you're suppose to play until the next cut scene.
