John Quotes--I'm having a hard time.....

..understanding/reconciling/embracing some of John's words. I was wondering if you guys could help me understand or whatever it is. We all know John was a very complex, often contradictory boy, yet some of these quotes..they "bother" me. I don't know if I'm seeing them as the by-product of a certain person's influence, or if the contradiction in

wow, that quote where he admits he is a violent person. We all know as you stated he could get very violent when drunk, case in point Paul's 21st birthday.

Paul has said John never once hit him, so I wonder just how much Paul was able to keep John's violence in check sometimes.

Yeah. That's the thing that, to me, says a lot about their friendship and how close they were. If when drunk, John could "forget" himself and easily have his rage bubble up to the point where he didn't care who he hit, why should it be any different with Paul?..yet it was. I mean..in some of those shit bio books..I think Goldman's is one of them..John is accused of "murdering" Stu in a fight; suggesting that that's what gave him the brain hemorrhage. Terrible. I've seen him called a murderer on JHP..and a rapist. :( There's, I think, a lot of misconceptions about John. People hear things and they draw conclusions without any valid proof. Yes, John could be violent. I don't condone it or justify it, but it's nothing new for one to have drink effect them in that way. He had a lot of rage and pain that came out when he drank too much..and even Paul said he would never have wanted the upbringing that John had; that he dealt with a lot. But he also said John's reputation was "seriously flawed"..and it's his opinion and Cyn's that I go by.

I'm like you, I go with what Cyn and Paul say about John. Paul has said time and time again that John could be a very loving person.

Yep..and I think John, himself, tried so hard not to let it show because he feared rejection..so one can often misread him and say he wasn't loving..but Paul knew. He saw behind John's "wall" to the truth.

Naturally, I can't find the quote when I want it, but John said himself how contradictory his life was.

I think it's the age-old problem: trying to live up to your own ideals.
