In the Quest for Privacy... Well, if you're anything like me, or the average internet user, you know very well how much spam, targeted ads, scams etc we are bombarded with every singe day. It's been some time now that I've been looking for some information on ways to cover myself from this situation. You see, it's not only about spam, ads etc. It's about ME feeing secure. Or rather, not exposed to every damn company who wants to brainwash me with a ton of targeted psychoogically optimized adverts. I am REALLY, REALLY tired of knowing that every time I want to register somewhere, or enter ANY persona info at all into a website's form, my personal info is bound to be spread throughout the globe to whoever wants it and can pay for it. Even those sites that claim "no personal info is shared, EVER", are NOT secure by any means. If a website coses down, or changes hands, something VERY common, all this warrany is void! Al our personal info is then cleared from any legal bonds, and can be EASILY spread around, given to ad companies, targeted with millions of ads, etc etc. There are steps that can be taken to reduce this, of course. If you're browsing fishy areas online, use a proxy. Many good ones around. Cover your IP. Use a firewall. IMPORTANT: DON'T opt in for ANY MAILING LIST, NEWSLETTER etc, EVER! EVER! There is something called the CAN-SPAM act. It's a legal act describing when a company, website or individua has the right to email you. According to this act, you have to opt-in TWICE to be eligible for email receiving. Enything else than that is, simply put, ILLEGAL! Allright, in case you think I'm pulling all this out of my @ss, here is the site I found this info at:
PrivacySource.net I also went ahead and bought an e-book they have in an ad there, top-right corner. It's a pretty good read, and has saved me from a ot of trouble. Give it a glance, it may strike your fancy. Well, till next time, friends. Take care. Remember, what a company needs is passive, uninformed individuals. DONT BE ONE. Cheers, ~Klearchos.
