Isle of IKEA

Jake was waiting in the lobby. He was waiting very patiently (with a big, big coffee) for people to show up for the trip to the isle of IKEA. There needed to be a couch, and also a tv-table, and possibly other nice and shiny things. Possibly coffee-related.

Rory threw herself into a chair happily. "I need one of these. I don't care if I can't fit it. I'll give up my spinny chair for it."

Xander blinked. "It's... an inflato-chair."

"It's skooshy!" said the girl with a larger-than-average vocabulary and a genius-caliber IQ.

"Huh." Xander tries out an identical version and grins. "Yeah. Though hmm. It is kinda large for a dorm room."

"But I have a big room. Double all to myself," Rory whose name is not Roroy wtf pointed out. "I'm fully getting one. I'll figure out something to do with the rolly chair."

"Yeah, you've got the beds pushed together, though, right? Not as much room if they're apart."

Xander stood up and eyed the other options surrounding the skooshy chairs.

"Yeah, I'm a very sprawly sleeper," Rory explained, bouncing a little in the skooshy chair. "And so is Vladdie. So making one big bed made sense."

Xander laughed. "Yeah, you and the tiny puppy take up acres of space, I'm sure."

He wandered over to something slightly less expensive. If by 'slightly less' you meant 'half as'.

"Something like this [Except, um, this on, stupid javascript] might work. They're stackable, so could even get a couple." Xander stroked his chin.

"It looks like a booster seat," Rory said, picking up an uninflated skooshy chair.

"Kinda, I guess. The skooshy chair looks like somebody cut a piece out of the corner of a couch, too. Swedes are weird, yo."

Xander tilted his head at the booster seat chairs. "But they're cheap, and they look pretty sturdy. And they come in green." He scratched his ear. "Which, um, is nice. Because that's a nice color."

"And it's Bridgey's favorite color," Rory said sagely, because just leaving it implied wouldn't do.

"What a weird coincidence." Xander maintained a straight face for at least 7.9 seconds before grinning quickly and then letting that fade to uncertainty.

"He does kinda have absolutely no furniture. But I dunno - maybe that's the way he likes it? Like buying him a chair is pretty much saying 'your room sucks, dude, here, improve it?'"

"Nah. It's sweet. Shows you care," Rory said with a small smile.

"'Sides, it implies you'll spend more time there," she added, raising an eyebrow.

Xander could point out that for some people, a continued lack of chairs might make some implications about how much time was being spent there and how it was being spent, but a) dude, Rory and b) dude, just no.

"It, um. Does? Yay?" Xander pulled at his lower lip. "I guess?"

"I mean, if you want to be spending time with him, that is," Rory said idly. "He just seemed awfully excited over those texts last weekend. Like he really likes you. But that's just what I observed."

"...yeah?" The look on Xander's face was... not exactly surprised, and yet. Mostly it was the kind of shy smile that would look much less out of place on, well, Bridge.
