[For Matt] New Year's Eve

Jan 02, 2009 16:15

Midnight was fast approaching and Daphne had still not seen hide nor hair of one Matt Parkman. Only, that wasn't quite right as that implied that she'd been looking for him and that was emphatically not the case. His Christmas admission -- though not unwelcome -- was confusing, to say the least. After all, she loved a Matt Parkman, just not that ( Read more... )

Matt, for his part, probably would have had a hard time denying that he'd been keeping an eye out for Daphne. Confusion about just what the hell they had was definitely an issue for him (although he admittedly had way less reasons for it to be than she did), but it was a hell of a night, a hell of a party, and dammit, he just sort of wanted to see her. Nothing wrong with that, right?

When he finally spotted her towards the end of night, he only hesitated for a second before heading over to say hi.

"Daphne, hey. Happy new year."

Somewhat surprised by the sudden appearance of Matt, Daphne swallowed her wine quickly in an audible gulp, her hand automatically moving to her mouth to wipe away any excess. Squeezing her eyes together for a moment, she quickly opened them and offered Matt a somewhat embarrassed smile.

"Matt, hi!" she said, her voice sounding strange to her own ears. "Happy New Year! Some party, huh?"

"Uh, yeah," Matt replied, maybe a little too quickly. It had to be at least a somewhat extravagant affair, seeing as he'd actually bothered to dress decently for it. He'd been to his share of government functions over the last few years, so it wasn't as if he didn't feel comfortable in a simple tux, but it still would have felt out of place on the island on any other day. "Guess this place isn't half bad sometimes," he said with a small shrug.

Oh, this wasn't awkward at all.

In her surprise, she hadn't even bothered to take in exactly what it was that Matt was wearing. She almost wished that had remained the case. Her Matt hadn't been one to dress up all that often and, if memory served correctly, the last time she'd seen him in any sort of tuxedo had been their wedding.

"You look great," she blurted out.
