Travel Tales Tuesday: Being a gullible foreigner

One of the things I love about travelling is that you meet so many new people and try new things. Something about new people and experiences that especially interests me is finding out the ways your culture is the same and yet different from others, and how you personally can be the same and yet different when you go new places. This is one of ( Read more... )

Lol, that was a great story.

That's not the first time I've heard from someone about those damn drop bears, though. My grandmum may or may have not got me and my brother on that when we were younger. Hah.

Haha, thanks. Is your grandmum Australian?

Hahahaha! That's hilarious. No wonder you have so much fun when travelling with people that don't know you. ;)

It can be a lot of fun! I've been lucky with the group tours I've been on that the people were all so friendly.

Lol, damn. So that's the deal with drop bears! I've only heard the name and didn't know it was a joke or that they were described as being killer koalas, looool. Amazing job fooling the whole table! That's true performance art.

How many countries have you been to?

Hehe, I was pretty proud of it :D

After a bit of headscratching I found this quiz to help me count. I've been to 14, including Australia :) I want to visit everywhere and there just isn't enough time! I'm aiming to increase that list by at least two or three within the next couple of years.

Have you travelled much?

14?!?! Wow girl, that's a lot! Mostly Europe or...?

I know, I wish there was more time -- and that I had unlimited money to globetrot! I haven't been that many places actually. My home nation (the U.S.), Mexico, Ireland, England, a handful of other European nations during study abroad... I want to see it all raaaaagh!

Yeah, a fair amount of Europe- UK, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Vatican City (I feel a bit cheeky including that as a country, but it is!), Austria, and Switzerland. Because Australia is so gaddamn far from Europe, a lot of Aussies try to stay there for at least a month or more. Anything less and you don't adjust to the jet lag and it doesn't feel like you got your money's worth out of the excruciatingly long flight!

Somewhat closer to home, I've also been to New Zealand, Thailand, Fiji, and Singapore. I'm hoping that living in England for a few years will give me a chance to see more of Europe while I'm there. Next on my list after that is pretty much all of South America, because I want to do it while I'm relatively young and healthy :)

What's at the top of your list of destinations?

I cannot wait to travel! to learn about different cultures, try different cuisine, meet different people.

Do it! It's so much fun and you can learn a lot about the world and about yourself. Is there anywhere you especially want to go?

Hamburg, Germany(my family lives there), Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Greece, Madrid.

hahaha, that is quite funny. And I can totally see the Americans needing that explained again ;-)

It was somewhat predictable. US folk rarely seem to understand Aussie humour :)
