So I've got the drying rack, the bike, and the acoustic guitar. When the oil peak comes, the hard thing is not going to be living without a car, it's going to be living without food and electricity. Remember that "30 Days" episode where they took two ignorant city folk and made them live off the grid? They didn't discuss computers much, but I think ( Read more... )

i have friends who are making their own biodiesel. their ultimate plan (which they've been working on for the past few years) is to create a community (called 'Lentil Village') which is self-sufficient (and vegetarian!). i think they were going to sell biodiesel and hand crafted quilts/goods to townies for extra money. it's located in Eugene. i think it's a pretty cool idea.

i think solar power is a good idea. it would be a cool experiment to create a real working solar power device to plug the computer into.

It would be great to have that, but to keep the entire internet running, the whole world would have to run on solar powered electricity plants. I hate to think of the years and years of data that are going to be lost (especially the Mark Harmon filmographies) because we didn't plan for the oil crash soon enough.

you've got a good point there. start saving local copies of Mark Harmon's filmography on your HD!

I think perhaps I should call that "30 Days" show and say they should challenge you to live for 30 days without a computer. I think you would explode, but it might happen. I lived for 9 months without TV and it still amazes people that I managed to do that.

I think I could handle 9 months without TV. I don't really watch it very much...except when "30 Days" is on.

Lol, yeah I have been considering giving up tv again. The odd thing is after about a week you don't miss it at all and then you wonder why you watched it in the first place.

The thing about TV is, the main reason to watch it is to know what everyone else knows and to have a shared culture. If the electrical system goes down and there's no more TV, you wouldn't really miss it because no one else would be watching it either.

YOu must, for the love all that is Vampire, go to see Nosferatu at the old time theatre. I have it on DVD but would give my left mole to see it in a theatre.

Please go so I can live vicariously through you.
