Read on, it'll make sense! :) I read the Cain Saga 1-4 before Godchild, and I really liked them. Kaori Yuki-sensei's older drawing style looks so... cute!

I read Godchild first, actually. And reccing to read Count Cain first may not be good idea either, because like you said, it is a bit disappointing. I mean I liked reading it to see how the main characters formed, but in comparison, Yuki improved a lot on her writing style. I think if I read Count Cain first I wouldn't have continued at all.

I do like the Red Ram arc though.

Count Cain came first so it's only logical that the story starts from there and reflects Kaori Yuki's earlier art style. The same thing applies to Angel Sanctuary where you can basically catalog evolution of her art.

Honestly I always preferred Count Cain over Godchild.

I still have trouble separating them - the series was published as one in Germany, that is as "God Child" with 13 volumes.

XD Lols yeah the art in Count Cain isn't as great as in Godchild, but I didn't find it confusing XD;
