I pose a question about White Owl

I haven't thought about this before and may be over-analyzing once again, but...

Is it possible that White Owl is blind? I saw his eyes on the page where he says "Perhaps a funeral march", just before the splash page that starts Scene 3 of Mortician's Daughter (volume three). They were dilated. Normally, when a character's eyes are dilated, they're ( Read more... )

It's certainly a possibility, but personally I don't think he is. Kaori Yuki is known to dilate the characters' pupils, especially when they're angry/scared or if they're evil characters (notice how Riffael's pupils are dilated more often than Riff's). And usually her blind characters (like Zaphikel, or that woman in Fairy Cube) will have their eyes closed or without pupils at all.

I always thought he was albino myself. And I think with some kinds of albinism you can get eye problems.

Well, I would agree with the albinism-theory. Besides, I always thought he was in a kind of... weird trance? Because he acts that way in that scene, at least that could be a possibility. Drugs are bad, kids. Remember! XD

I can't say if that's true canonically, but thematically I think it'd be really awesome! I'm rather in love with the idea of that--the person whose job it is to witness the dawn of a new world is blind. Because it's something that, truly, cannot be seen. In the series, the actual climax was internal--the fact that buildings were collapsing and things were blowing up was background. Stretch a bit further, and 'poison'--actual concoctions or psychological ones--too, is invisible.

Just, *_*. I really am taken by the ways fandom could work this. *must write fic*

Very intriguing possibility!
