And this is one of the reasons I love doing NaNoWriMo. This lovely letter was sitting in my inbox waiting for me. Today has gone so slowly. I still have less than 400 words and it's 6:oo pm. ( sometimes I really hate my muse. ) This was just what I needed to hear ( Read more... )

That's awesome. I've always wanted to do a nano, but I just don't respond well to goals. :)

Ya know I don't normally but this was self imposed with no other motivation than I wanted to see if I could do it and No penalty if you don't succeed.

I learned a lot about myself doing NaNo last fall and it was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. :)

Ya know I was just thinking about what you said here about not responding well to goals. BUT think about this. You're an author and each time you sit down to write a story, you have a goal in mind. And I have been reading your stories and damn girl you tell a marvelous tale.

Maybe what you don't respond to is goals given to you by other people. But NaNo isn't about other people, it's about what you can do for yourself.

My regional coordinator sent me a sticker that says. Whatever you think you are, you are more than that.

I want to encourage you to give NaNo a try. I think you would find it to be an awesome experience. And whether you succeed or not you will have a story to work on and ya never know.... you might just surprise yourself. I sure did.

It's definitely the external goals that get me. I have an 800 word/day goal that I try to meet every single day. It usually keeps me going in some useful direction. When I set a longer-term goal, even if it's smaller (like say if I wanted to do 15,000 in a month), if I get a little behind I get too down on myself and frustrated that I'll "Never make up the days".

To date, I've only ever done one challenge-type thing successfully.

Truth to tell, I'm terrified of losing the roll I've been on. :)

I just put up part 4 of WaWWM. 5 and 6 should be up tomorrow and Mon and then I'm gonna be running sequel ideas at you. :)
