Love never causes pain. If you feel nothing but love for someone you will revel in their happiness, regardless of its source.
Augment the love, ignore the pain.

Love does cause pain. I feel pain and happiness. I am glad he is happy, but it pains me that I was unable to provide that happiness for him. It is a selfish pain caused by love. Love can definitely cause pain.
