This week we were examining Blake's poems "Holy Thursday" and "The Chimney Sweeper." Obviously these poems reflect Blake's resentment of organised religion. Blake's Dogma
In the tutorial this week we looked at Blake's "All Religions are one." My being the natural film buff brought up the 1999 controversial Kevin Smith Film "Dogma" which tells the tale of two fallen angels, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon (yes Mattt Dammon) and their discovery of a loophole in Catholic Church Dogma that would allow them to re-enter heaven ( Read more... ) -
Know Thyself
I had a rather macarbe and somewhat Blakian thought last night. In movies (and supernatural!) you see skeletons, remnants of people who have come before and I realise. One day I'm going to end up like that. This week we started to watch a movie that enlightened how William Blake concoted his various paintings and poems. It was interesting to hear that the feature opened with some considered Blake to be a genius while others thought him to be a nutter. Movie Comparison of the Week: Lady in the Water
This week we looked at Remembering Babylon by David Malouf. As the story has gradually begun to unfold I have discovered with some annoyance that it is Aboriginal related and Colonisation of death. The other day I finally got round to seeing Wanted, starring Angelina Jolie and James Macavoy. Apart from being a completely over the top crazy adrenalin film it did raise an interesting concept amongst all the Hollywood Hype. Yesterday we looked at some of the works by William Blake and one in particular caught my attention. From the Augeries of Innocence.
To see a world in a grain of sand,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour.
