If it's cosplay why not a cosplay contest? You can do a voting between all the attendees so you don't have to go around looking for a stage, good sound, arranging all the entrees, arranging the judging panel, or if you wanna do it that way go ahead ^_^
You can do some fun categories: best villain, best FtM crossplay, best catboy/girl, best workmanship, best wig, best group, stuff like that...
Maybe someone would be interested in presenting a skit or two as well.
Hmm thats a really good idea :D It honestly didn't even occur to me. I think I will do that. Plus it gives me a good reason to use my newly obtained megaphone xD
Do differing variants, though, so that no one is left out. Depending on how many people you get, you could do best overall, best workmanship, best novice, and maybe something with a theme like best Lolita, best cute, and best serious.
It might seem like a little more extra work, but it's always disheartening for first-time costumers, or those who don't have much experience, who feel as though they don't even have an ice cube's chance in hell, otherwise. When I wore the first few costumes I made myself, I was very self-conscious about it, because while I was proud of them, I knew they weren't 'amazing' or professional-looking. Turns out one of them one a local contest here in my city not too long ago. Just make sure no one feels left out, or they might not want to participate again, ya know? Try to include everyone, even if only a few people win overall.
You guys have such great ideas. I really like the picnic idea and karaoke would be fun :D the only issue with that would be getting a sound system... but maybe I could work that out... *ponders*
As weird as it sounds, you could always try more non-cosplay related things. I liked the idea of the scavenger hunt, but you could also do something fun like a little outdoor dance-kind-of-thing with anime/game music for everyone to boogie down to.
