A Drop Fell on the Apple Tree

A Drop Fell on the Apple Tree -
Another - on the Roof -
A Half a Dozen kissed the Eaves -
And made the Gables laugh -

A few went out to help the Brook-
That went to help the Sea -
Myself Conjectured were they Pearls -
What Necklace could be -

Emily Dickinson

Man, Dean had really had the crap beaten out him... sniff sniff...poor guy. Sam definitely got off lightly in their growing up. Well physically anyway.

Hi there!

One of the things I want to continue in this 'verse is what hurts once...being hurt, or watching someone you love being hurt. This installment is meant to build on that. Thx for reviewing! <3

This 'verse is so in character that it's just...amazing. All you did was take out the supernatural stuff and put in natural explanations for everything instead - you've got the exact same characters as Show; Sam and Dean completely co-dependently twisted around each other, John desperately trying but messing up so bad half the time, Bobby there to pick up the pieces and Cas loving them and wanting in so badly...

I love this 'verse. And I especially love the way you've got a non-linear narrative, going back and forth in time, filling in back story here and there so that we're always learning just a little bit more and getting a little more of the bigger picture. Thank you for sharing this with us! I am always so happy when I see that there is more from you! :)

Thank you soooooo much! And thanks for befriending me!!!

It was always my intention to make this 'verse as in character as possible. It's been great fun to find reasons/places/roles for the characters outside of canon, although I am a die-hard canon gal!!!

Thank you, as always, for your kind, consistent, insightful reviews!!! They make me want to keep working!!! <3

Mmmm. Reading this makes me want to go back and read the rest... again... for the 3rd time.

This sets up their characters for the main story perfectly. Sam's fear of abandonment is already so developed that the loss of even one person would affect his stability. It's scary and sad because, even though Dean's attitude/behaviour is typical, so much of what happens later could have been averted if he'd just allowed Jim to get him and Sam professional help. =\

Thank you!!! There are times when I have to re-read it myself, to refresh my memory, haha. I'm deeply honored you continue to comment, and so warmly/insightfuly!!! At the start, I had intended the whole 'vere to be their backstory. And then I began to love writing in the present, which surprised me. There will be an exploration of Jim trying to help John, but, ultimately, the message is supposed to resonate that Sam took the road John wouldn't. Not canon, but still...hope people like. Thank you!!!!!
