Looked up PoT on Tumblr* and I don't know who the newer characters are. Wtf nooo, it used to be such a low maintenance series. Like, scroll through the last 10 posts in the main LJ community every few months and boom! you're up to date! Now I feel like I'm stepping onto a moving train. Does anyone else sometimes wish a series would just end already

New Prince of Tennis is crazy - I've been reading scanlations in little bursts when I remember, and it genuinely reads like crackfic to me - and has tons of new characters. I can identify maybe three of them, oh god. But the old characters are still the primary focus, so that's not a huge issue.

(But yeah, I think I want it to end. Or for there to be a little less crack smoked while writing the plotlines.)

I think that's one of my main issues too. The new stuff is a bit too cracky, and the fanservice is often uncomfortably blatant.
I'm cool to stick with the classics, and if I write stuff in my stories that retroactively contradicts this "new canon" I'm sure I won't be the only one.

Yeah, the fanservice is not servicing this fan much - I was cringing in faint embarrassment all the way through some of the new doubles-pairs matches. Especially ones with my favourite characters. Sigh.

Yay! Glad it got there safely, was a little worried customs would hold it up!

I think Prince of Tennis suffers the same problem all the super-long running Shonen Jump series tends to have - absolutely massive cast, which means increasingly little time spent on the cast members you actually know and care about. :/ It worked when you only really focused on one new set of characters at a time at each stage of the tournament, and then maybe they'd make a brief appearance or amusing cameo later, but when they're all there in one massive blender? And then heaps of new characters added on top of that? I just want to know what the Seigaku crew are up to. T__T
