Oh my god...somehow I never heard. I don't even know what to say except that it seems impossible that such an enormous and potent personality is not still in the world. I'm very saddened to hear this. I still remember performing godawful poems in court during that reign. :(
Thanks, I'm really glad you like the designs. And I just had to dig out Barak's promise... It's so expressive to me of how it was easy to mistake his gruffness for anger, and miss the kindness there. But there it was.
I love the photo because it's "behind the scenes". It's not the two of you in full regalia looking all impressive, but an informal moment. I love how you were brushing your hair (one so rarely saw your hair down, at events) and doing paperwork at the same time (the true life of a queen...). I love the coffee cups. I love Barak's characteristic grimace/smile. It's just...so human, and so you. Does that make sense?
And I guess I also feel connected to it because I was there and part of what was going on, even though I'm not in the picture. It reminds me of one of the most amazing weekends of my life...
Raven, coming into this project late. Any chance you'd consider selling postcard sized reproductions of these at 12th night? I think our time in the SCA is about the same span, and as you pointed out these are those folks of legend for me too.
I've just been posting the line art here, so far--the other entries are all on friends lock right now, because I don't want to spoil the surprise too much for the rest of the kingdom. We had been considering a coloring book--postcards is also a great idea...various thoughts are rolling around, maybe a photo CD? (I only did these 8...Yseult has done many, many others of branch heraldry and medieval beastiary.) I can see from responses already that the group will need to give some thought to how to best share the results.

This is a wonderful homage.

The death theme has been excessive, lately... But it does at least stir a lot of fond remembrances, and I suppose that is the best memorial.
