Post-Superbowl Greetings!

Well, I spent the morning wrangling with customer service reps for Bank of America trying to get someone to shut off an auto deduction from my checking account.

They were ordered to do so in December but they haven't.

All I got was a total runaround. I'll have to go into a branch in person tomorrow.  Dammit. Very soon, I think I'm going to swap to a ( Read more... )

"Play to win."

I think I need to write that on a card and stick it on the desk over my computer... so I can see it all the time when I'm at the comptuer. I need to remember that.

:D

Kermit! :)

In football terminology, the opposite of "play to win" is "play not to lose." It's a difference in intent.

Sometimes, you do lose when you play to win. :) Famously this season was Bill Belichick's decision to go for it on fourth down at the end of a hard-fought game with the Colts.

But I liked the call. The execution lacked but the intent was there.

Watching the game you could see that the Saints were highly motivated and nicely in sync with each other.

But yeah, I can track the distinction between "play to win" and "play not to lose". That's why it was nudging me. :D I too easily get into "play to get by" mode. Got to stop doing that.

Oh, and on the superhero romance front? How about Superman and Lois -- or is that so old hat now that it's invisible?

I'd suggest Green Arrow and Black Canary, except that too many writers have written it badly there are few stories other than the ones that Denny O'Neil wrote back in the '70s that do justice to the relationship.

I think I'll go with True Story, Swear To God. Classic romance.

Have you read Love and Capes? If not you need to check into it. Thom Zahler is really doing some great work on it. Issue #12 just came out about a month ago and it was Mark and Abby's wedding. I can't wait to see what happens now when the Crusader has a wife. There's one TPB already out thru IDW and Zahler is readying the second one now that catch things up thru issue #12.

Here you go, check out the website: http://www.loveandcapes.com/

I found this series thru FCBD several years ago and fell in love with it. It's a great depiction of how to make a romance work in comics. And the relationships between all the characters are very well done. I know it's a little late for this year's Valentine's Day column but get ahold of the TPB and give it a try. I think you'll like it.

Great interview! They asked smart and unusual questions, and personalized them. You had good, smart answers. It rocks, and you should definitely link to it on your website.

The Super Bowl was relaxing. It helps when you don't REALLY care which team wins. And, yeah, I hate it when teams play conservatively. The coach at my college played conservatively all the freaking time. He NEVER took risks, and I think that's one of the reasons he lost his job: everybody could predict the plays he would call.

Of course, after we got rid of that coach (who'd been there for quite a few years), we hired somebody who took risks and then our football program proceeded to go straight to hell. :-(

Well, they have to be *intelligent* risks. :)
