I've been talking about starting a public blog for a long time now but couldn't pin down exactly what I wanted to talk about (nothing that had a consistent theme, anyway). Now that mountaineering has taken over my life (and after being surprised by the dearth of remotely entertaining mountaineering blogs), the choice seemed pretty obvious

Oh, man... you totally used "dearth" appropriately in a sentence. I might be swooning here.

Growing up in Minnesota, mountains were totally foreign to me, too. Every time I see Mount Hood on the horizon, my heart does a little jump. I don't know about climbing all the up 'em, though...

I recognize that it takes a special brand of crazy to start climbing mountains. I think that's why I like it - the people I've met are spectacularly deranged and therefore the best people to get super drunk with and start scheming.

Plus, I really do have a history of picking up the most potentially harmful sports. It'll be a miracle if I make it to 40 and an even bigger miracle if I make it to 60 and still have all my limbs.
