So I got these four Harry Potter-verse characters in my head and decided to give them a run.
Not to disparage fan fiction but technically I think this counts as tie in if I don't use the cannon characters.
Either way, here is my story, and if you like Potter stuff you might like it. :)

If the mood ever strikes you again it'd be interesting to know how this lot ended up hanging out together - especially the Slythern. Also the odds of two muggle-born kids coming from the same family.
Really though it should be about how they secretly won the war while everyone was too busy looking at Mr Potter... ;-)

Interestingly, this came from a thought about writing the Potter series from the Hufflepuff perspective,
but where they had been the ones to set up all of Harry's victories.
That shifted in this case to wanting to do something about Hogwarts kids who were a bit more like comprehensive kids.
Also I liked the idea of having people who seemed very opposite to their house stereotype, but still would have been sorted there.

Anyhoo... Semantics and pedantry aside, this is really fun. It could probably have done with a bit of a polish before posting - but extra marks for using "myriad" correctly! I love the characters, and am in agreement with Dave that more information about how they became friends would be very enthusiastically received. Less disparagement of Hufflepuff next time, though, please - badger pride!!

I was wondering if I'd get pickyness the other way around saying 'but thats not fanfic you can't call it that'. :)
I'll have to do a follow up as to how they got together.
George and Chloe are obviously brother and sister.
Not sure how they met Naseem but given Chloe fancies him I suspect she engineered him into the group.
I think Rochelle just started hanging around with them, mainly for observational purposes.
My plan was to offer a little more Hufflepuff pride (glad to see we have a Hufflepuff in the group too!),
in that while they get the short end of the stick, George is the leader/organised one.
I was planning to maybe do further stories where he proved Hufflepuff were as good or better than the others despite the prevailing opinion of the others.
I also have to expand on Hufflepuff custard fighting.
I may well make Gryffindor the bad guys too, as I felt a bit bad making Slytherin the villains this time.

There's absolutely no shame in that though, and they're great characters, and it's a thoroughly entertaining story.
Rowling's depiction of Slytherin and, to a lesser extent, Hufflepuff, always seemed a little unbalanced so it's nice to see people from all 4 houses just being decent people and good friends.
As for the badger-hate, didn't George ever read The Wind in the Willows? Badgers are awesome.

I've no shame in fanfic, just wasn't sure if it counted.
But I've been put right there twice so clearly it does :)
I'm actually rather pleased I finally finished some at last, I've tried starting one (usually Firefly) a couple of times.
I don't think George hates the Hufflepuffs, just annoyed at the reputation they all suffer under.
If I do another one it will be more pro-Hufflepuff.
The basic idea for George is that he's the leader/protagonist of the group not the usual Hufflepuff background guy.
Ravenclaw remain my favourites, but I've often considered shifting to Hufflepuff.
If only they weren't yellow... :)
