arteries | finny/gene | pg | 219 words
Finny laughs because it’s too obvious, not the answer though. Would that be a laugh!

“The Nagmusmett kind-of reminds me of veins.”

“Is that how you study?”

“Sure, pal, sure.” And, without even breaking the sentence for the smallest of breaths, Finny shoots the puck, working his magic and watches it go exactly where he wants it. A ray of sunlight catches a patch of their skin to break the layers of cold that is so much like the river they skate on.

“Biology? Do you even know whether it’s the vein that carries the oxygenated blood away from the heart, or is that the artery?” Finny laughs because it’s too obvious, not the answer though. Would that be a laugh! It’s obvious, so why ask?

“You already know, why’re you asking? The evil mastermind Gene working on his newest plot on distracting me with studies so I won’t make this goal? Never!” He skates circles around Gene who is doing a decent job defending the solitary goal at this point. So, just to be, you know, fair, he jabs his stick a little too close to Finny’s skates.

“Just to see--“

“Getting desperate?” Because Finny never falters. At least Gene can say he’s never seen it.

“Just wanted to see if you were ready.”

And he practically gleams, making a perfect stop, ice spraying into the air, and goal. “For the test? Never.”
