It's been over six years since I opened this livejournal. At the time, it was the best option available to me, and a huge step up from my previous web presence, which was a geocities page which sat at the end of a 40 digit url.
The time has come for me to move again.

For a moment I thought you were going to say that coriolinus.net was running on a machine in your apartment, but I'm relieved that you're going to let others worry about the inevitable network problems. Reading the e-mail stream at work about network problems and fixes has been eye-opening.
Your post begs the question as to who provides the service you find so much more workable than previous hosting companies. If you don't want to name names here, I'll ask again by mail. :-)

For me, the entire migration took maybe 14 hours from the time I got the email with access to the new, blank site to the time I announced it to the world. Granted, I'd been able to update the DNS records before I got that email, but that took negligible time. Putting up a decent-looking site doesn't have to take forever, if you have good tools; my host at least gives you those tools.
